California foothills - cave and stream

This is a place called "Natural Bridges" in northern California in the "Gold Country." Used a Nikon Z7 with a 24-120 Nikon lens. Sitting down almost in the water! It was a hike to get there and the rocks were very slippery. I kept slipping down the rock I was perched on into the water getting my bottom wet. My tripod was in the water already. I wanted a distinct foreground, midground, background with the cave clearly being the intended subject of the shot. A little more at the top would have been better but I had trouble seeing as I was using a 10-stop ND. The left side øf the rocks were covered in graffiti and I did not want that for this shot sø I cropped it out, normally I like the 3:2 format best for landscapes. I may end up adding something to the top in PS with content aware to see how that works! Luckily I can always return to this spot as it is only 30 minutes from my home.

I love everything about this photo except the bottom quarter. For me, it's too much blur too close and is jarring in contrast to the sharp and exquisite top half.

Next time you're bottoming out in a stream, Connie, send us a selfie!

Funny...I was also trying to keep my boots out of the water while not kicking my tripod, I would have needed a third hand for that selfie. Also, there were other people who wanted my place as footing was limited to only one or two places. I'll have to go back alone to take more time. The shot was 2.5 seconds and I had to hold my finger on the shutter, no extended shutter release with me. The challenge of photography. I was sort of guessing on the focus and the DOF focal point placement.

Nice spot and a good shot.

Oh, Mr Murphy just dropped by for coffee and saw the post. He says he had fun making that rock slippery just for you.
