Adobe refused to 'authorize' a never used, shrink wrapped version of PS I bought as they were going to the subscription model, so I'm not interested in supporting them.

Really? This is not only unethical but I believe it is illegal as well. I have not heard of them refusing to honor prior sold licenses. How much time passed between your purchase of the software and when you tried to authorize it? Did you contact Adobe about the problem?

This happened many years ago, now. The package was a few years old when I bought it, and the price on Ebay was about 20% of the retail price at the time. After Adobe responded they would no longer authorize that version, I took it as a reminder to Caveat Emptor: it was too cheap for a reason....
