Well, some people are. It is a very great picture, and it was done just a couple years ago. I especially like the point that the photographer planned for the picture. The best luck is what you make for your own.

I have my own ideas of greater pictures, as many people here will.

That is one hell of a shot --
But the shot from the moon of the big blue only home we have remains my all time favorite

Also in line with my thoughts. There are separate factors that make for a 'great' picture. The picture itself (lighting, focus, bokeh...). Some pictures are great because they are considered difficult or unlikely. Other pictures are great b/c of how they make us feel.

"Most Amazing" would be relative to the viewer.
I wouldn't call it history's most amazing.

Astounding shot and I tip my hat to the Southwest pilots for going the extra mile/miles to make it possible.

I think a true photographer is one who has the vision to anticipate / create a shot like this.

Incredible and really wonderful that the airlines worked with him within whatever limits they could.

It was a great eclipse! A buddy and I drove 900 miles to be on the centerline of the eclipse. The weather cooperated and we both got some great shots. Maybe not quite as good as that from the SW Airplane but still more than happy with the results.

What captured my imagination was the extent of planning and preparation Carmichael went through to get his shot. He was prepared to do almost anything to get the shot he envisioned. Greatest or best ever? Perhaps, regardless, kidoes to him for the shot.

I called in sick to work so I could go and see an eclipse in totality. Only had my smartphone to take a picture, though. But seeing and experiencing it was a truly remarkable event in my life, as I had never seen one before, and may not again (though I don't know that for sure). But it was a last minute choice I do not regret. This is an image that I took from my phone, which I use on my home screen on my newer phone.
