Illegal crossings plunge as US extends policy across border

Illegal border crossings have plummeted after the Trump administration made more asylum-seekers wait in Mexico for hearings in U.S. immigration court.

The drop has been most striking on Arizona's western border, a pancake-flat desert.

Border arrests there fell 94% from May to October.

A Border Patrol official says traffic plunged after asylum-seekers learned they couldn't stay in the U.S. while their cases wound through court.

More than 55,000 asylum-seekers were returned to Mexico to wait for hearings through November, 10 months after the policy was introduced in San Diego.

I submit we invite everyone in every country who wishes to immigrate to the Unites states to be able to do so. It would surely have a positive impact on our economy as we would have a more abundant labor force and by getting them enrolled in unions we would see their wages go up exponentially meaning it would increase tax revenues. Forget that most of the countries they will be coming from only know crime as a way of life, we have the resources to lower that recidivism rate over time through rehabilitation efforts.

Getting them enrolled in Unions is what sends jobs overseas because of the cost inflicted on the consumer.

Sorry but inviting in a labor force in the hundreds of millions would send wages plummeting to minimum wage or less, especially under the table. And we don't really have any significant rehabilitation programs for criminals. Changing criminal minds to become good citizens is not a simple case of having resources or spending money. I don't think you have thought this thing through.

Actually, I should have put more emphasis on my attempt to show sarcasm. I doubt there will ever be a successful way to rehabilitate the bad guys. Inviting everyone to the US. that wants to come here would no doubt create unimaginable chaos.

I should have put more effort into coming across as being sarcastic. My brother in-law had a high paying union job. How he kept it was beyond me. I never knew a lazier person in my life. Not to say that is typical of union workers but he sure like to carry on about how many times the union saved his butt.

Thanks for clearing that stuff up! I know it may look clumsy, but putting a little (sarcasm) sign at the end of a comment helps if you're not on familiar rapport with your reader.
