ON1 Problems

Maybe you folks could help me out. When I try to edit a photo directly on ON1 I'm always directed to reinstall the the software. If I try to access ON1 through MS photos the same thing happens. The only way I can access ON1 is to put my Photoshop and transfer my image from there. I've emailed ON1's support link but I haven't heard for them. Any suggestions?

I don't know the system you are using. I use iMac and have no troubles using ON1 as an extension through Apple Photos. Origionaly I tried using ON1 as a stand alone but you cannot directly axcess my photos stored in Photos as per ON1 customer service. Your problem sounds similar. I still load my photos into Apple photos and then bring them up in Photos Edit. Then go the extensions and bring up ON1. Then you can edit ON1. But you may have a different system.

What version of On1 are you using?

How long have you waited for a response from On1?

Have you tried using the file browser in On1 to import and select images for editing?

Why are you still trying to use MS Photos? On1's File Browser replaces MS Photos.

What are the exact error messages?

I use On1 asa stand alone and keep all my photos on an external drive and use it that way on both a PC and a Mac no issues, could be something on your system causing a conflict.

Don't use ON1 PR2019. It is full of flaws. The newest version PR2020 is great and I haven't had one problem with it crashing. Some other considerations, what type of graphic card are you using and have you updated the graphic card software lately. Also, how much memory does your computer have? This software uses a lot of memory and graphics card space. Check with ON1 support if the issue continues. They will usually get back to you in a few days. Also, there are a lot of good ideas on how to improve performance on the ON1 website.

I don't understand what you mean when you write that you are "directed to reinstall ON1" when you try to edit a photo directly. ON1 makes a number of different products but I think most of us are assuming you are referring to Photo Raw. If not the case please advise. If Photo Raw what year? Assuming you mean Photo Raw have you in fact tried to reinstall the software? I can tell you that Photo Raw 2020 on my iMac needed to be reinstalled to overcome a couple of problems involving migration from Lightroom and repeated hangs. It is a fully paid for and licensed version and has been working fine since I reinstalled the first time.

I experienced a very similar problem. Every time I tried to move an image from Lightroom to ON1 as a plug-in, I had to re-install ON 1. A friend fixed the problem for a while, but when I later upgraded to Catalina, the problem resurfaced along with many others.
I should have never upgraded from Mohave to Catalina. Since I did, I am having problems with both Lightroom and ON 1. I now have a mess that will take research to fix.

After a student of mine and other reports on UHH . I stayed with Mohave. I am also using ON1 2020. I should have added this to my previous answer.

wow, I would say for most people On1 Raw 2020 has been a great success. Im on imac and since you didn’t tell us what you are running my comments might not be pertinent. Ive found their support to be excellent and they usually return within 24 via email. If you are on Facebook go to their group page and message Whitney Stevens. I am sure she will help you.

I've been with ON1 since version 9 in (1997 (I believe).) First of all when you say "Direct" do you mean from the camera to On1? I've never tried that so on that I wouldn't know. But if you mean from a directory on your computer, I've never had that problem. On1's support these days seem to be pretty slow and they say they are bogged down in support issues (paraphrased). It almost seems to me they have bitten off more than they can chew (limited staff??? perhaps???)

I had a similar problem with Catalina. This program trough havoc with On1 and other programs. My solution: Junk Catalina and go back to High Sierra. No problems now, and everything works. I have a mid 2012 Mac Pro.
