The TG-6 is a good choice.

Make sure the strap is secure. Preferably to two points. I made sure my PENTAX WP60 was secure and then the strap broke. It's probably still at the bottom of La Jolla. Loved that little camera, it took all the stuff I hadn't bothered to download to Davy Jones locker with it.

OLYMPUS TG6 is up there with the best at the moment.

I have the T-G 5 and love it. Truly waterproof and images are good. Look at the pricing for the TG-5. I don't think the TG-6 is a big improvement over the 5 and it could save you money. But compare the 2 and see what the differences are.

Yes, I would go with the Olympus. They have a very good reputation among Tough cameras.

I tried a few phone cases, and was usually disappointed. The touch-screen usually gets hard to use (or stops working completely), and you end up having to use the volume buttons to take pictures.

I would go for the Olympus tough camera. You will be surprised how good the image quality is, and you will find the buttons easier to use than a phone.

The Olympus TG 6 is on my short list! Do get a float strap for it.

I don't know if things have improved, but there is a lot of care needed after use underwater.

People used to get underwater housings and just put them on a shelf. The seals needed to get sand and salt off them and often needed to be lubed.

Ton's of people buy very cheap "Action" cameras with housings and then complain when the leak.

I guess the battery/card door is the main concern with digitals.

I was the first on the pre order list when the TG-6 came out. Love the camera, love the photos it helps me produce. It does have some advances over the TG-5, you would have to compare the two to decide if the 6 is worth the extra money.
Highly recommend the TG-6.

I have had good results with a GoPro Hero 7. The current models are much improved in that they don’t need a case for snorkeling depths, and that the LCD back and touch screen controls are both visible and workable in the water.
It does take some time to become familiar with the menus and controls. Interestingly, you may find that you get better pictures with videos than still settings. And you can control it through a smart phone.
