I had the sigma 150-600 with a dock. I wound up selling it for my Nikon 200-500.
What is the primary use for the lens?

The Sigma Sport and the Tamron G2 are very similar in image quality. The G2 offers slightly better sharpness at less than full zoom, the Sport is slightly better wide open at 600. I have found both to be sharper than the Nikon 200-500, especially if you use a 1.4TC to get a little more focal length. I own the Sport and have first hand experience with two different Nikons and 2 different G2s. I am not saying the Nikon isn't sharp - it is quite sharp. But the other two are sharper.
This article confirms what I have said about the Sport vs Nikon.

I have no opinion on the Tamron lens, but here is one of my earliest shots using the Sigma 150-600C at full stretch/full bore.
I have not used either. I considered both. The Youtube videos I have seen suggested the Sigma is better. Sigma’s older 150-500mm lens can still be found, and seems almost as good as the newer 150-600mm lens...for a lot less cash. Let us know what you end up with.
I rented the Sigma and borrowed a friends Tamron G2 before i wound up purchasing the Tamron. I thought it was a tiny bit sharper and lighter. Plus i already had the Tamron 24-70 g2, 18-400 and tap in. And you cant beat the 6 year warranty, that is a Big plus.
I got mine at Adorama on sale new for 1019.00.
I can't say anything about the Sigma, but these were taken with a Tamron 150-600 G2 The picture of the cow was at 600mm, focused between her eyes, the squirrel was at 400mm, both at ISO 800. Both were hand-held. I am very impressed with the VR, and the sharpness of this lens.

Neither will deliver the sharpest of images. I shoot with Sony, Nikon, and Canon glass. They are better designed, better built, built to better tolerances, use better glass, will last longer and sell at much higher prices than either Tamron or Sigma.
If your serious about your craft, do the research and buy the best optics you can, the lens determines image quality, don't skimp on this, you will be much happier using equipment specifically designed for your make and model of camera body.

I have the G2 and I agree. Staying away from 600mm just slightly gives a much sharper image. Just as sharp as a Canon 100-400 I used to have. Maybe even sharper. In fact, I think I traded the 100-400mm to get the G2.
I rented the Sigma 150 to 600 Contemporary for use on my Canon 5DSr from Lens Rentals (great service) and was so impressed almost purchased it. But bought one new from Adorama for great price, was very disappointed by perceived focus issues, arranged for a replacement (Adorama, without any hassle, sent me the return label). But, reconsidered, thought more than a week of testing might show me as the problem. Wise, it was. I made some camera menu adjustments, shot a couple thousand shots of birds and found where it excels. Focus. See fussing Gila Woodpeckers (1250, f11 451 mm ISO, 800 AI, Servo, the lens was focused on a stationary bird and the second unexpectedly shows up, got 5 great focused shots, one of which is here. Have since had equally good results at 600 mm.Keeping this sharp lens! Tamron G2 was considered, but a cost a third more.
Nassim said this: For this versatility, more reliable autofocus operation and other reasons pointed out in the review, I would personally choose the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E VR over the 150-600mm counterparts.

Since the G2 seems dissatisfying to you at 600mm, I'm wondering, have you checked with the tap-in console at that setting, to see if the sharpness just needs a bit of adjustment?
