... Ok, Troops!! This little test review is on the "Infamous" Nikon (not Nikkor!!) E Series 36-72mm F/3.5 Zoom lens.
NO! ... No Autofocus or VR here!! The EXIF will not show focal length but should show F/ stop. Basically, I shot at F/3.5 or 8 anyways.... Ok...GO!
~ Price paid (eBay, free shipping!): $12.50
~ When Made: 1981 - 1985
~ Why did I buy?: Just for the Fun of it! To actually see why so many people dis/hate this lens. Can it be THAT bad?
Pros:
+The focal length is decent for a walk around lens for MY style of shooting.
+The small compact size.
+The semi-fast continuous F/3.5 aperture throughout the range.
+Pretty sharp @ F/5.6 - F/8.
Cons:
-Can not get close to a subject - 4 feet is the closest yur' gonna' get to your subject! (big failure for
my style of shooting!)
- The F/3.5 aperture is pretty useless...I have not shot any portraits with this lens - maybe that
foggy halo look would work there!
- Lens hood a prerequisite with this lens due to the flare you will get if you don't!! The lens coating
was cheap to hold the cost down maybe? (I always use a lens hood, so not a big deal for me).
Conclusion: Keep your 18-55mm VR Nikkor or 18-70 S ED Nikkor G lens on your camera. I have a hard time even trying to do an ARTISTIC style of image with this lens!! (well, actually I haven't really tried due to the no close focus thing!)
^^ Oh, well. They ALL can't be winners now, can they! .... Whoohooo!!!
