Over the years I have purchased a lot of camera gear (all Canon), and along the way I've learned that a fair amount of those items, mostly lenses, camera bodies, flash etc. were little more than impulse buys thinking that each one would make me an infinitely better photographer. Fast forward, that was not the case! With that in mind, I would like to donate some of my collection to a worthy charitable entity. All of it has hardly even been used and I would like to see it go to aspiring photographers. If anyone knows of any reliable sites or photo clubs I would most appreciate the info. All of my google searches seemed to direct me to lots of sketchy sites

I have donated equipment that I no longer use to the local HS if they wanted it,
and could make use of it.
High school or community college would be my choice. There's a good chance there are students or a teacher who'd love to get a camera but can't afford it
Great idea! I will certainly look into that option!! When I was in collage just having enough quarters to do laundry was at times a bit of a challenge so I do know a little about the struggles of getting by in college. A girl I met in the laundry room on campus more or less understood. Six grandchildren later she still reminds me that I've yet to repay her the $.50 cents she lent me. She also agrees that you've made a great suggestion.
I donated a lot of older stuff to a high school nearby also.
I think you can write it off as a contribution for more than you could sell the stuff for.
Like the replies, I would suggest the HS or even the local library.
I have donated photo gear and power tools to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
A have also give a bit to fellow Hoggers.

Hi! I am the advisor of a photo club in my district in Ohio. We would love your gear!

When you find a group/institution document your donation with a dollar value. Then when you file your taxes check with your accountant for a possible write off on your tax returns.
I agree with the high school/college option. My daughter is in high school and they have a small amount of cameras for the kids to use. Awhile back, they had enough that they could let the kids check them out over the weekend and do photography projects at home. Now they can't do that and it all has to be done in the classroom. I bet a local high school would like to have your cameras. They could use your nice ones in the classroom and let the kids check out the older school ones to take home. Nice of you to want to donate! Whoever you choose to donate them to will greatly appreciate it!
I've tried giving things away, and it's easier said than done. Schools are often set on what gear they use so they have consistency. It's the same with other institutions - different gear, too advanced, not suitable, etc. Of course, there's always the Salvation Army or Good Will. eBay is the best way I've found to get rid of things I don't want.
Other thought might be ‘Budget’ stores. In some communities worthy and ethical organizations such as churches or the Salvation Army have stores. These outlets have not only used clothes but other things such as laundry machines in working condition that the donators no longer need but that other people could certainly use. I would bet that they would welcome cameras in decent condition

Look at donating to Veteran Affairs rehab. programs. Photography has been found to be a helpful form of Art Therapy.

I have donated products and equipment to two area community colleges. When I closed my wet darkroom I had a few thousand sheets of photo paper from 8x10 to 20x24, I found a local college still doing film photography and they gleefully used the paper. A couple enlargers and studio gear went to another college program. I like to think my gear is still being used to make great art.
