I have a new Canon T7i Rebel, and have my macro lens, now I need one that will get me up close and personal with the man in the moon, but, I don’t really want to sell the farm in order to buy one....lol I’m aware there are other name brands that I can use on my camera that would be less expensive. Maybe even used off eBay. Thoughts? (Yep I’m a beginner)

Look at the Tammy 18-400 3.5. Gives you eff 29-640. Not expensive, good iq.

Sell the farm. Or be happy with a cheap lens that won't be sharp at maximum focal length.

Without knowing the OP's budget or the funds their farm with yield, ^^^^ this EF 70-300 lens is your best, first option to consider.

I have the 70-300mm. This is a nice piece of glass for the money. Sometimes there is a lens creep. When the lens is vertical the lens extends. This can be annoying at times. I have a thick rubber band like that tends to hold zoom ring in place.

Since you are a beginner, don’t sell the farm, the horse or the dog. Just save up a few dollars here and there and you’ll have it in your bag in no time.

The vII suggested above has a lens lock, negating the extension, at least when in transit.

Some people have an affectionate name for it, but yes, he does.

Even though you are a beginner, if you have a serious interest in photography then buy the best lens you can afford. Whether it is new, used, or refurbed, it will be a better purchase then a less expensive lens that you become dissatisfied with. For my money, that would be the EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L II. The zoom gives coverage of a fairly wide range and the image quality is matched by few, if any, lenses at anywhere near the price.
Right now it is selling for $1799 new. A used or refurb would save some money but they are hard to find because of it's popularity. People who buy this lens rarely get rid of them. If you can't afford one now just keep your eyes open for a deal in the future.

Remember, that 100-400 mm lens on the crop body becomes a 160-640, hardly a walking around, gen purpose lens.

True, but, the OP stated that he wanted a lens to get up close and personal with the Man-In-The-Moon. I didn't see any mention of a gen purpose lens even though I would guess he could use one if his only other lens is the Macro he mentioned. If he wants a long lens he would be hard put to find a better one then the EF 100-400, provided it is within his budget.
