I didn't notice this on today's discussion but the Nikon 780 is available for pre-order B&H, Adorama and Amazon. I received an e-mail this evening. Check the price, then check the price of the Nikon 750 & Nikon 850. They seemed to have gone up. No comparison to the before Christmas price of $999.00 for the 750. Sticker schock anyone?

Yes they already sold all the D750 they needed over Christmas. Now they need to raise the price of the D750 to make the D780 price doesn't seem too high.

I thought it was going to be the D760? Nikon now has a new model system, that jumps over the number you think it should be. No big deal though. One feature the D780 will have, is the capability of using the double row UHS-II SD card. Faster Read/Write speeds. The Sony a9II mirrorless, has that same 2 each, UHS-II SD card feature. Just hope it will be recall free. Some D750s were recalled due to a shutter issue. This successor was a long time coming. The price of the new D780, body only, will be $2296.95. And with a 24-120mm lens. $2796.95.

I got tired of waiting for the D750 replacement and purchased a Z6 - very happy with it and no longer interested in the D780.

I still think I would pick the 850 over the 780.

Agree I watched a Nikon commercial/promo for it and have read some early reviews and am not blown away buy the "still" portion of the camera except for the low light performance. That looks very impressive. It seems a lot of the "video" aspects of it are better though. So, like always, a lot is dependent on what you shoot and what you need out of it.

I am new to all this photography stuff . Just a question. What did the D750 no longer do, that at one point in time you thought it was the camera you had to have? My understanding is the D750 is a very good camera. Why the need for a D780? Of course you solved that problem.

If your into video, then the D780 may interest you, also has a better low light reach. But, if you are a competent photographer, you should be able to get great stills out of either.
The D780 should also have better buffering due to the II memory cards. Good for action and video.
So, depending on what and how you shoot, it is really up to you to weigh out the differences and what has value to you and your shooting.
In addition, many over look the software, yes, the sensor helps to determines quality, but so does the software, and that is where Nikon really shines over Sony. The D780 will have the expeed 6 processor and the D750 has the expeed 4 processor. So, you are getting a two generations newer processor with the D780, and that may be the most important meaningful difference in the two. DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS.

Wait a couple of years, and the D780 will drop in price, just as the D750 did.

But, how many images will you miss over that time that you could have captured with the new low light, expeed 6 processor, D780.
Yes, all Nikon current camera's will drop in price, just like all Nikon's do. So what is your point?????
All Nikon's over time have dropped in price, what is new about your post????

It's a Z6 with a thicker body, F mount, 2 memory cards, and Mirror.
The slightly higher price is basically for the mirror and extra card slot.

The best thing about all the new models is how much it pushes the price of used cameras down. It's a boon for us budget buyers.

The best time to have bought the D750, was during the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Xmas holiday periods.. Now, the prices have increased.

A pointless plan. If you can wait a couple of
years you don't really need the thing anywho.

If you actually need it, buy it now. When the
price drops and then drops again, calculations
will show that those who paid the intro price,
compared to those who waited that couple of
years, have essentially been renting their new
new camera for about $10 to $15 a month. To
someone who actually needs it now not later,
that is rather low rent.

These calculations include the fact that 2 yrs
from now, those who waited get a brand new
camera while 2 yrs on, those early adopters
have a used camera. If it's just a lightly used
camera, age is no issue. OTOH if it's a heavily
used camera, the person who heavily used it
really needed it, so waiting 2 yrs was never a
reasonable option anyway.

The best reason to buy it 2 yrs after intro is,
obviously, that you don't happen to need it
right now, but 2 yrs on the need for such a
camera arises ... plus the price is attractive.
