Sigma Stabilized Lens with Laea4 on Sony A7II

I recently purchased a Sigma 70-300mm OS for Sony Minolta. I noticed that when the OS is turned on, the image is stabilized in the viewfinder but when I half press the shutter it seems to disengage. When I turn it off however, the OS switch on the lens and use IBIS only, then it seems to function properly. That's OK I guess but shouldn't the IBIS in the camera work in conjunction with the OS in the lens? Anyone have experience with other Sigma or third party lenses with stabilization while using the LAEA4 on a Sony with IBIS and having to turn off the lens's stabilization?

What are the results if you leave the OS on with the lens and turn IBIS off?

It is quite complex to use both at the same time and with cameras that advertise this capability, it is always limited to certain lenses. It sounds like camera doesn't know what to do with the OS which is interfering with the IBIS.

My understanding, with Sony lenses at least with OSS, is that they work in conjunction with one another. With Steadyshot off, the Sigma lens's OS works by itself, as it would with a camera without ibis. Same as with the kit lens and Steadyshot on. I guess with this particular set up I have to turn off Steadyshot. It's not a problem at all! As long as I stabilization, which is outstanding on the Sigma!

Why do you expect a Sony to
have dual IS as with a Lumix ?
IIRC you can use either type
of IS, but never both at once.

None of my A-mount lenses
have OIS so my closest thing
to your situation is adapting
Canon EF lenses with OIS. In
that case, the IS is either-or,
never dual IS.

Sony would have no reason
to write dual IS into their FW
for A-mount adapters, and it
is kinda odd that the Sigma
A-mount has OIS. I'd stick
with the a7II's IBIS and not
try to use the Sigma's OIS.

I guess I was under the impression that they worked in tandem. As you say, the only way it does work is to turn off the OS on the lens and use the Steadyshot by itself. OR, what works even better is to turn off Steadyshot and use the OS on the lens by itself. The lens stabilization, Sigma's OS is actually more effective, especially with a zoom, then having to dial in the proper focal length if using the Sony A7II's Steadyshot.

Should you for some reason want to
use the IBIS, you will NOT need to
manually inform the body about the
FL in use. Any lens with the normal
A-mount electric contacts will inform
the IBIS about FL even as you zoom.

The above is true for all of my OEM
A-mounts, and also a Sigma and a
Tokina. All my lenses date back to
pre-digital, yet are fully compatible
on LAEA3 and LAEA4. Acoarst no AF
for old lenses on the LAEA3, but all
else is 100%. I use the '3' in really
dim light cuz the SLT AF in the '4' is
not very effective there, so no point
losing 1/3 EV to the mirror in the '4'.

My Sigma a screw drive so I need the 4. I seem to not that the lens's OS works a little Betty, at least in the viewfinder than using ibis.
