A couple of hours today with VADA. I have re-established the translucent walled studio. Added a big mirror (VADA looked smiled and said "Timmy loves mirrors!" So does VADA!). Not just the studio of transparent walls but the 'club wear' arrived. Silver, gold and black Mylar overalls. Truth, at first VADA was not super likening the silver outfit. I reminded her of the 'trany shoot' with the 16 inch Italian peperoni, she laughed her head off.

We talked about the contractor demolition set that we will be doing soon, boys just love girly girls with big power tools chopping up a place! That is what the silver jump suit is to be used for. So VADA is in the silver suite and she is getting comfortable wearing it and decides it not so bad.

"you know where it would be fun, at temple! (Temple of Flesh, the once a month naughty adult meeting place here is San Antonio!) VADA says that it is about three weeks away. "I guess it would be ok, it's just that the last time I had one of these on it was hard to pee in it." I said, "And VADA loves to pee, a great bladder she has!" More laughter.

"Hey do you need to pee, you could try it to see?" Was my remark. "Sure, I could go pee." and she unzips the front as far down as she can easily. "Hey," I say, "Turn around, there is still more zipper to go." So VADA turns and I get the zipper and draw it to it's end point. VADA looks surprised, "I didn't think it went that far!" She looks at me and we giggle, I put my finger against the nylon zipper edge, "Safe for naught fun, won't cut at the boy gear!" VADA giggles, "Safe club wear for the parking lot quickey!"

e were done with the test shoot and so unzipped VADA went to the water closet. When she returned I suggested that perhaps the club wear naughty jump suit should get a good honest road test, "Jason is home, isn't he?" VADA smiled, "Good idea! Jason can help me test out the jump suit!" To which I pointed out, "You know this should be a serious test! There is the black and the other, the gold suits, they should all be tested!" "No problem! I will have Jason test all three and report the findings back to the facility organizer!"

I'm not worried, Jason is a good guy, I send lots of naughty things for him to try out with VADA, he is a good husband, salt of the earth type. He just loves his husbandly duties!

By the way, the images were sharpened in un-sharp mask mode to see how that worked on the silver jump suit, ok I guess.

Thanks for the comments (being civil). I just wish I could get something more than opinions of technical subjects. Oh well, it is the Hog and it's good ol' boy members.

OK, some artistic and semi-tech comments:

Image #1:
- bad framing in that you cut off her foot
- the lighting on her face is bad, creating terrible shadows on the eyes and around the mouth

Image #2:
- much better framing and balance
- but still not sufficient detail in her face due to lighting and focus

And now getting really technical, why are you having so much trouble with focus? You paid a lot of money for a camera that can probably focus much better than you if you just let it.

Tim, by now I hope you know I love and respect your work. My suggestion for all your shots is two-fold: 1.) Better light your subject(s); 2.) Get your subject in better focus. You post more out-of-focus stuff than anyone I've ever followed on this board. The models are excellent and your stuff is good; so with a few small tweaks, your pics would rock. Seriously, no harm intended; just the need to get better images out of you with the models you shoot and where you shoot them!

I don't mind "blown highlights" When there is nothing there to see. With BW film we had them or we just had a neutral grey and bla contrast. I'm a fan of post processing just as I was printing BW in the darkroom--remember the little dodging thingies on the end of a wire or the holes in cardboard to burn in an area. Those who do the same with digital are somehow listed as not careful to take it right to begin with. I sometimes soften the edges as I don't really want to see into skin pores, kind of like using make-up. And I like to experiment just to see what comes out of it--sometimes I like and a lot of times I don't.

When I don't really like your results I just try to see if there is "something" that I like and try to steal the idea not copy the results. Keep shaking us up.

If there were two things I would comment in the months I’ve watched this post... focus on the models eyes (or other subjects!) and better exposure on the models face.

Tim... I like your work!

Just one guys opinion.

Plus your model work is better than mine!

Thanks for the 'like', from some. The rule is still there, "if you don't like it then just don't look", but everyone knows that the volume of looking has to do with the odd sense that there is something to see. For many it is the fun of a train wreck. A few actual enjoy the content for various reasons. Most just are seeing the crazy and sense that there is something that they are feeling with their senses, and that is great, keep feeling and looking.

I will never understand the comments about 'focus'. I do not peruse the focus of the digital standard, so there is no point in these comments. If the image is blown up one sees the hand has a soft looking vein pattern on it. The silver suit is not creamy, but the skin of the mode is vary creamy, I work at that effect. I desire to post process the skin of women to be like a cloud, soft, indefinable, like a wisp of the mummer becoming a soft whisper. Often I hear women this way, so I visual present them as such.

As to the face, yes it has a different look, it is some where between that of a 'real' human look, to some where just short of a cartoon. Does any one now think that the center fold in Playboy looks like the woman portrayed? It is fantasy, everything was 'processed' after the 8X10 transparency was made. Do you not know that George Hurrell oiled his subjects, no make-up then manipulated the 8X10 B&W image before making the final print? Paul Outerbridge made 8X10's by tri-color separation and intentionally altered the focus of the camera to create the edges to be out of register creating focus shifts, thus altering the 'clarity' of the final image?

The focus of many of my images are there not as mistakes, but by design and intention. Viewers don't care for the effects, but these effects are intentional. How can this be? Do some Pin Speck photography and the altering of 'standard reality' will begin to make sense. But if a viewer wishes tack sharp digital images then that is just great, but you won't find it in many of my images. It is not what I am doing with my work.

As to the lighting, that is a whole different ball of wax. I stated that I ran a sharping filter on this image. It was not entirely due to the silver jump suit, it was along for the ride, yes. But the sharping tool was the effect created by the elevated ISO (noise in digital lingo) and what happens to the light passing through the diffusing plastic 'wall' as part of the image as well as the different reflective surfaces on all the minor surfaces of the Mylar body suite.

And let me be clear about ten or twenty paragraphs written, absurdly didactic, on and on...it's mostly because the viewers need to be directed to understand what I'm working on/with. Terribly sorry that many here don't know the deep meaning of an alternative view into the world of photography, or art in general. How to explain Robert Rauschenberg's Erased De Kooning, or that the painting of The Olympia was controversial in its day because of the bracelet on her wrist. I have to leave behinds little references so the work has context, but only if it is understood.

So now we are back to me being a smart ass for many, that I 'can't' focus a camera if and when I need to, or that I don't understand movement, sharpness or image making. As my dead Mother use to like to say, "It's no skin off my nose!"
