[quote=SteveR]The U.S. has a fairly small carbon footprint compared to places like China and India. Bringing back coal had more to do with poverty in Appalachia than the use of coal.
China and India have a population of over 1 billion in each country. So no, America has a fairly large, and under Trump, once again growing carbon footprint compared to China and India.
Regarding 'Bringing back coal had more to do with poverty in Appalachia than the use of coal', are you suggesting the coal wont be sold and burnt as fuel? Interesting.
But we digress. I didnt intend to make this a political debate.
The blame game really should wait.
Its was intended to be about offering Oz our support and sympathy.
My apologies.

When you start bashing another country's (my country's) PRESIDENT you make a political statement. That tends to turn into a political debate. I, for one, won't stand by silently.
PRESIDENT Trump is the best president the U.S. has seen since Ronald Reagan. He will be re-elected in 2020 and we will have four more years to continue righting the ship left by President Obama's disastrous 8 years.
Prayers going out to Australia.
No apologies.

And I will restate the prayers and if the Red Cross or others come around donations.
I already do a monthly to "Team Rubicon" - a multi nation volunteer disaster response group (NGO) started in 2010 for the earthquake in Haiti by two US Marine veterans and now in several countries with over 90,000 members and growing.
My daughter and son (he's the veteran-little sister and Mom joined also - I'm too old and creaky but can donate money etc) deployed to Houston after "Harvey" hit in 2017. Her team/tribe* included a member from Australia. I found info that TR Australia is preparing or already deploying people so If my money can send help from the US chapter that is great.
*Their nickname for themselves is "The Tribe" and deployed groups refer to their team as a tribe, individuals are called "Greyshirts" after their signature grey shirts with emblem.
America is become a cruel and self center country. With fires in Aust. all it saying "We will pray for you." Well when the fires hit America, no one is going to pray for you. All people well be saying "Burn, Baby, Burn."

Educate yourself, you won't sound so much like an idiot when you post. The US is sending firefighters and equipment to Australia. At GREAT expense. Because they are our friends.
If the US is such a horrible place why are all the immigrants piling up on our borders?
We have a fire season every year just like Australia does. We don't ask for help we take care of ourselves.
Don't care if some ill-informed idiots say burn, baby, burn. We protect our own...as well as half the rest of the world.

Pay attention to the news. The US is sending fire fighters and equipment.

NZ sent firefighters in Sept last year to assist fight fires in California.
We have nearly 180 in Australia right now with helicopters, planes and army personnel leaving this Friday to add to the numbers.
We have had soldiers fighting with the US forces in every major (and some not so major) conflicts in the last 100 years because America has asked for our support, so to say you dont ask for help is not correct.
And yes, all at our taxpayers expense.
With a population of around only 5 million I think we punch above our weight.
When I hear or read "We will pray for you" It set off red flags for me. After each schools shooting I read and hear " We will pray for you" and the killing kept coming. To me that was a cop out for don't want to made hard choices. Over the years I have seen some bad things happen, all people would said was "We will pray for them" and the beat goes on. So that is why I came down so hard on "We will pray for you"
PS: I was not in a war, so the "bad thing" was not from that.
