I cannot believe this thread, now at six pages and so many different and illogical comments. Common sense should dictate that digital cameras (and other electronic equipment) can be damaged by temperature changes from very cold to very hot. Try to keep your gear in a non-damaging temperature range. It will last longer, give you better service and you won't need expensive repairs or replacement purchases. In addition the probability of theft will be lessened if the equipment is not left in a car.

Logic and common sense should tell you, take your camera into the house and if you wnt to take it with you every time you go out, remember to pick it up!

Disclaimer: I didn't read all the previous posts.

That said, I just bought one of those aftermarket seat warmers you use when your car doesn't come with a built-in one. There's no reason not to put your camera on one of those with a towel over it to keep it warm. Total cost about $30.

So if I put my cold camera in a ziplock bag
and bring it inside and let it warm up before
I open the bag it will be OK?

That is the normal practice for a quicker
warm up than you'd get if you leave it in
the camera bag, cuz the padding would
slow the warm up of the contents. If you
don't need a quick warmup [done doing
photos for a while], most camera bags
will protect from condensation if you
don't open them when you come inside.

You really don't need the ziplock routine
unless you NEED a faster warm up cuz
you need to do indoor photos fairly soon.

The indoor air isn't in any hurry to enter
the bag, cuz warm air has less pressure
than cold air. If you won't be using your
cold gear for an hour or more, a camera
bag will protect it quite well as it slowly
warms up.

i am tired of never having my camera in my car only to see something I would like to have a picture of. I don't want my D7200 with the longer lens left in my car because it would be seen (I have a suv. But I do have al cool pix B700 I would be happy leaving in the car. Batteries lose their charge in the cold. Does anyone have a suggestion to keeping it warm.
Thanks, Mary

Would a Large Sealed Ziploc Bag with 1-2 "Hand Warmers" in with the Camera keep it warm enough over night. Also, a few little anti--moisture pads that keep it dry inside the bag. ??😳🤔🙄

I used to keep my old canon SX10 in my center console, and had a second battery and charger plugged in cig lighter, so I always had a charged battery. Worked great for years until somebody broke into my truck. I really miss that camera - it took great shots.

Most cameras' maximum operating temperatures are 140°.

But is that the same as "Storage Temperature"?
