One of my grandson agreed to get some pictures for grandma.
I used an Octabox with a grid for the main light and another (sometimes with grid sometimes not) for back light or to light background.

Rick, all of these are quite nice. However, I'm with blue ultra with my preference.

I'm sure Grandma is gonna be pleased with these images of her very handsome grandson and Grandpa's hard work is gonna be appreciated. Thank you for posting theses and requesting a critique.

So, y'all who offered comments did not state why you like the images and the OP was good enough to supply us with all of the technica information, so where's the requested C/C?

Here's my take. Great expressions! What the lighting amounts to, in SOME of the shots, is a rather flat main light and a kicker. I would have liked to see more of an off-camera position on the main light to provide better modeling like in the first image. If only two lights
were in play, a main light somewhere between 35 and 90 degrees off-camera, depending on the angle of the face and the camera position, a reflector fill and that kicker would have made a great combination.

The man light, in theses images slightly too high and slightly under-illuminating the eyes. The eyes should be more centered thereby shown fewer whites. The last image (2/3 face benefited from short lighting with the kicker coming from the same direction as the main.
In the 3rd shot, there is a disunity of lighing in that the main is comin in from the camera-left ad the kicker is on the right side.

Poses: In these leaning poses, you need to watch posture. It is best
to have the subject keep his back straight and have then lean forward at the waist. A true full-face shot should have the camera position so that both ears are the same size.

The pews or seats in the church or auditorium make for good framing and "leaning posts" but you have to show less of them and subdue the background light to prevent glare and clutter.

Kicker lights: Any light striking the subject at more than 90 degrees is at an angle of incidents that causes it to seem brighter than the main light even if it is equidistant and at the same power output. You want the light to accent the side of the face and possibly the bridge of the nose but you don't want it to burn out the highlight detail. You may consider reducing the power, increasing the distance, adding additional diffusion, and/or more feathering. I use the word "SLIGHTLY" allot because some of these adjustments are
very finite.

I know that sometimes young folks are reluctant to pose for
Grandpa. One of my granddaughters loves when I
photograph her. The other 2 girls need more coaxing and my grandson- I am considering escorting him to my studio at gunpoint- I'll resort to bribery first.

Keep up the good work and post more!

All are quite good, however I am leaning toward the last image with the right side cropped to eliminate the blanket over the back of the pew behind the subject.
