Medicine to the needy
Dec 29, 2019 12:07:58   #
Graham Smith Loc: Cambridgeshire UK

This mobile pharmacy, more accurately called an old van is owned by the Church of North India and is operated in the slums of Kolkata by volunteers. It carries a selection of basic medicines...nothing fancy like anti-biotics... mostly over the counter stuff that has been donated because it is out of date.
Breathing disorders are the most common problems that they have to deal with amongst the children. The problems are, of course, in the main. caused by the deadly pollution that hangs over the city for many of the winter months. And as many of the children live on the streets there is no escape for them.

A great photograph Graham depicting a need, the child, and a giver, the woman in the van. Thanks for the photo and thanks for the organization for doing great work.

Yes, very much so. As a photograph it's quite
complete. The general idea is very clear even
without knowing the exact details of the story.
Which is great, makes it more universal than
specific. The viewpoint plus the postures of
the subjects have great dynamics, a moment
that is like cine action even tho it's a still. The
details all over the van round it out. Terrific
sense of presence, as if I'm standing in the
photographer's shoes !

==========================

I'm not given to looking for nice things to say
simply to make an OP feel appreciated. I only
comment at all when I cannot do otherwise. I
leave the three-word-compliments for others
to post. Not to say that a three-worder is less
than sincere, but I'll only comment when I'm
reeeeeally moved, and I cannot convey THAT
in just three words :-)

I can imagine that van is a life saver for many. Another photo that says 1000 words. Well done.

I can see this image being part of a newspaper report on people reaching out and helping the less fortunate. I see it as if it was done by a photo journalist.

As usual, very nice work, Graham. As others have written, the photograph makes a complete statement.

A photojournalist with a great eye
plus technique to match ... like an
Annie Leibovitz or a Robert Frank.

It's one very together shot, really
well seen and executed.
