Portraits: 85 mm 1.4 and 105 mm 1.4
Wedding: 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8

I shoot weddings too and own a Canon 1.2 50mm and the 1.2 85mm. I use the 50 for full length to waist up portraits when space is an issue such as in hotel window light situations. But I prefer the 85 whenever possible for the increased bokeh effect. If I were you I'd get the 85.

I know the 85mm f1.8 is of excellent quality for portraits but I do not know if you will be able to shoot an entire wedding with it. I would say that what you need is a zoom and I vote for the 24-70 f2.8
A word of advise, if you have no training as a wedding photographer leave weddings to a professional.

I'll put the 85mm f/1.8 on a second body while I shoot with the 24-120 f/4 and flash; just for cases where I want shallow DOF in natural light.

I do have the 24 to70 that I use but I have been shooting for 15 years plus and want to buy the very best portrait lens I can buy.

Weddings can be fast-paced events. You don't want to be caught changing lenses while a scene evaporates.
Today's zoom lenses are up to the challenge. Use the 24-70 or 70-200 depending on need. Or else buy another body for each prime lens you plan to use. (And a very large camera bag -- you might need to hire a porter).

I second Kmgw9v's recommendations. However, as nice as the 85 F1.4 might be, I prefer the bokeh and overall sharpness of the F1.8. The 105 is one of Nikon's sharpest lenses. However, the 85 and 105 are quite specialized lenses, which can provide breathtaking bokeh when used at or near maximum aperture, and unless you are in very specific settings and do tons of head and shoulder portaits, you may find that the 24-70 and the 70-200 may be all you need.

There is no magic in prime lenses - you are the magic.

The 85 1.8 is my preferred - but you may find differently. Best to rent both and compare for yourself.

I have shot around 100 so far I just want to get the very best pictures. the 24-70 is my main go to wedding lens but I am looking to step up my game. I consider myself a pretty good photographer but there is always room for improvement.

Agree 100 Percent as a D800 user Suggest you have two bodies for weddings. One with the 24-70 2.8 and other with the 70-200 2.8. For weddings back up is a MUST
