Sirui tripod company - not nice

bought a Sirui tripod from Amazon; compact, very nice, light; but, it didn't suit my purpose; when I contacted Amazon to return it, they referred me to the Seller; after some delay they asked me a question or 2; after my response they sent the following response:

bottom line they want to charge me $50 to return / re-stock; didn't know this. I went back to the Amazon site and still don't see any warning that this would occur. I will return it, regardless ( it was $250 ) and contact Amazon for redress.
just warning people to beware; anyone else have this problem with this company ?

The link only works for the individual's account; the rest of us can't see it. Sirui is the tripod maker, but are they selling direct on amazon, or is there a retailer in the mix?

This is standard procedure for the industry - you are lucky to get off so easy ....

You probably ordered threw non authorized distributor. I have dealt with Sirui in the past and always had good results. They are very strict on non authorized venders..

don't understand what a non-authorized distributor / vendor is; if they are selling through Amazon I would have to assume there is "authorization"

not true, you can return many items at Best Buy now ( unlike days gone by ) without a re-stocking fee; just bought a laptop and returned it after 10 days. Have never paid a re-stocking fee at Amazona; complaint really is about the NON-DISCLOSURE that there would be a re-stocking fee

I have had no trouble with Sirui, but I never was in the situation that i had to return an item either! But I think the bad here goes to amazon, clearly they should have stated that in their advertising. Sirui has their own policies and it is up to amazon to display them , if they use some of their products on their site!

Amazon is simply a marketplace, any of us can create an account and start selling stuff. Just because I’ve got a source for cheap tripods doesn’t make me an authorized sell of sirui... when you view an item it states near the top of the page (varies by device used to view) who is the seller and if amazon is the “fulfilled by” entity. I’ve never had trouble getting in touch with Amazon, just go to your orders and there are links for returns as well as product sales support.
You can purchase Hoover vacuum cleaners as well but Hoover won’t honor their 5 year warranty because it’s not from an authorized retailer/seller.

This may be slightly off point, BUT that said, I personally never ever, ever buy camera equipment of any kind from Amazon, as they have too many 3rd party vendors with dodgy unadvertised practices (as you are finding out now). I try to keep with B&H, Adorama, or a local camera store (I live near NYC so I consider B&H "local") for all camera related purchases. There is real value to having a physical store with employees who know what they are talking about, and with showrooms where you can wrap your fingers around actual products, and so on. I would not buy so much as a lens tissue from Amazon. But that's me.

The main advantage of Amazon ( all things being equal ) is normally you can return things free of shipping charge, which you cannot do with B&H, etc. One just has to take everything into account before clicking the "purchase" button
