Dawn I am just a newby here but I have an extensive background of working around these following cars, Porsche, Audi, Jaguar,VW,Mercedes,Saab and etc. I would try taking an oncoming shot by getting the front and side from the grille back to just beyond the drivers door and maybe shooting from a ladder downward. As if the car is driving into the shot. Stay away from the distraction of the sky above the car. A car is of course a car, but man oh man there are a lot of beautiful cars out there. I would change colors and use a red/blue or black car.
Just saying!

This is not one of my shots!

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your input.

Snowbear- It's an SS...yes, the Cyber grey w/ black stripes would be very sharp...not available with the 2012 though.

PalePictures- I really like that angle & the idea of the road in the pic..thank you for all your advice.

Buddy36 - Unfortunately, changing the color is not an option. I agree it sure would make the pic pop better though. =)

ShakeyShutter- I have a polarizer...do you think I should use it?

Pale pictures...There will always be someone out there that thinks they have a better idea. I like the photo of your daughter in the picture with her car. Yes the lines are a distraction. It depends on what the real subject is when you get ready to take the shot. Perhaps a rug or colored blanket for her to sit on could make a different in the shot? It seems strange to see her sitting directly on the asphalt dressed up as she is. Blue jeans? A different story.

Just saying. Good shot just the way it is as well.

well, from viewing the photos of the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany, what you've done wrong in your pics is...you don't have some Asian model in some tight fiting leather attire, or some model in a long flowing evening grown standing in front of the car, and maybe some spectator kneeling at the back wheel of the car with his camera. Otherwise....okay; just need a bit of tweaking as is suggested here. bit higher view or low level, or straight on with a fish-eye lens (if you have one)....but by all means do like the pros...get a model to stand in front of the car, obscure the subject as much as you possibly can.

Just joking...very good work.

Here's an Idea. Break every preconception about how a car should be shot. Don't use the rule of thirds cast shadows on the car. Get a shallow depth of field. Add a subject to supplement the shot. Shoot the car at a slight angle with the headlight pointing toward you like the picture below and fill the frame. Be sure and adjust your aperture to get about a 8 or 10 foot depth of field.
Turn the fog lights on.
FIll the frame in Post if not when you shoot. Shoot when the sun down around 3 or 4 or 5 depending on where you live. (Get rid of everything except your subject(s)

Here's an example with my daughter and her Toyota Corolla.

Lines in parking lots and backgrounds become distracting. Except when they don't

Looks a lot better by taking the yellow strips put. Causes the eye to take in the main shot ( your daughter and the car )

The picture is a little bit under-exposed. In the future, pick an area that does not have stuff distracting from the car. The parking lot stripes mess with the flow.

I found a road leading to the beach without too many distractions, it was also on an incline so I could position myself higher than the car and shoot down.

Or if you can find some grass to put the car on. But that can be tough...

Thank you. Everyone is showing pics of the whole car, so I guess I am really wrong for wanting just a partial shot. Is that a bad no-no? I know I have seen it done before tastefully. Thanks to everyone that has responded.

You can do it! Just practice, and spend some time looking at other photos. It takes time to get it all figured out. I bet there isn't one photographer that figured it all out over night. Keep it up.
