Challenge: "When to Use Aperture Priority" Dec. 26-28th 2019
Rolk
Loc: South Central PA
Final set for this fun and thoughtful challenge.
Thank you, Lesley, for hosting!
Again, I tried to explain what I was trying to
accomplish with my choice of using Aperture
Priority over anything else for these images.
Tim
I wanted everything on this tall palm tree to be in focus as it leads you to the crisp, beautiful Key West sky, so I used f/11. Some lenses do a better job at even smaller apertures, but this one works best with my gear.

I wanted to make sure all the birds, AND the bird reflections were in focus, so I chose f/8

I wanted to be sure to capture the beauty of all the petals and all the raindrops, so again, I went with f/8

Because the sea lion was angled away from me, I had to use f/11 to make sure his whiskers were as sharp as his body.

I wanted the greenery to blur out so I could highlight this unusual red flower, so I used f/5.6 and stepped back as far as I could.

Same principle as above...step way back, zoom way in, open the aperture as far as you can...

These were taken at a some events at our local wildlife center. I use a 75-300mm lens and try to get a hint of back ground without taking too much attention away from the subjects.
Beautiful Set Kats, I'd say you succeeded quite nicely..

Six more for the challenge.
I tried to give better explanations of my "thought"
process in capturing these images.
So glad to see so many good examples on how to properly
control your depth of field and help define the "subject."
Tim
