MacBook Pro with External Monitor

Contemplating adding an external monitor (Dell 25”, 2560X1440) to my mid 2012 MacBook Pro. What has led me to this thought is the difficulty I am having getting a higher resolution external monitor running on a 1 year old Acer laptop.

So, should it work if I run a mini-DisplayPort cable from the MBP to the mini-DisplayPort on the Dell monitor?
If I am understanding correctly, the MMBP’s Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU should not have a problem driving the 2560X1440 resolution?

Appreciate the help in skinning this cat.........

I can't comment on the Mid 2012 MBP's ability to support 2560 X 1440 display resolution. I can verify that it will support 1920 X 1080 with ease as can be seen in the attached screen clip from my MBP and its attached Samsung display. The combination works well and very reliably.

(Sorry . . no way to attach image . .. trust me it works perfectly!)

You should have no problem. According to the support section of Apple's website your MBP should support up to 2560 x 1600.

All three MBP Mid 2012's ( 2x 15" and 1x 13" screen) support 2560 x 1600.

I just added a 24" BenQ monitor https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1397520-REG/benq_sw240_24_ips_wuxga.html

to my mid 2013 15" macbook pro. It came with a firewire input cable. That and plug in the power was all that was needed. Can't beleive I didd't do this years ago.

It will work. I use a 25” ultra sharp dell with a 2015 MBP and it works well. One downside is that I must use a xrite display 1 device to calibrate it. Others don’t work. Your video card is a limitation. Why can’t you use the much newer Acer?

I just bought a 25 Dell Ultrasharp today. It should work on the Acer no problem. Asked about the MacBook as a backup option if the Acer won’t drive it. Thanks.

I believe you will enjoy it. Great value monitor. I set mine to 1980x1240 to accommodate my eyes!

2560x1600 max resolution on the 13”. At least that on the 15”. It’ll work fine.

Jus got the BenQ 240 monitor. Not terribly expensive and calibrated in short order. All is well.
