Great pix!

I was in Iceland in May for two weeks. Rain for about 10 days with high winds. A couple of excellent sunny days.

And yes, the people were friendly, the food good and the tours great!

Cool, was it greener in May?
They do seem to get a lot of precipitation and clouds.

Fantastic images Bill. Our trip was during the summer - much more crowded I’m sure.

Thanks srfmhg.
I'll bet the summer is more crowded!
And a bit more colorful also?
The largest crowds we encountered in the beginning of December were at Gullfoss and Thingvellir National Park, Geysir was a close second.

It was just starting to green up in May BUT still a lot of snow / ice in spots.

I was told the best time is the end of June / early July. But these are the busy months for tourists. A friend of mine spent the middle of September in Iceland and said the weather was cool but great.

Strange to see Gullfoss without snow & ice since that's all we saw.
I suppose the island needs time for things to all turn green that will turn green.
I was told the same thing about June & July. I wonder how August/September maybe.
I'll have to check the historical weather is for that time frame.

My wife and I plan on a return trip and will probably aim for September...

Even though the weather was rather crappy on the last trip, we still enjoyed Iceland.

Hope you post a few shots from your trip so we can see what September is like!

Only 25° night to 35° F day, but 20 to 40+ MPH winds. It was hard sometimes to steady the camera. (Carrying a tripod would not have worked for me.) At Dyrholaey the winds were knocking people over. Our ice cleats helped a lot at Dyrholaey. The sun never got higher than four fingers above the horizon. People there were very friendly and cordial and the food was delicious.

The ice on diamond beach is from the glacier lagoon. Some people collect the large super clear glacier "ice cubes" to break up for drinks as it is fresh water.

EVERYONE goes to look at Gullfoss waterfall..... (I met a photographer there who was from New Mexico! Go figure.)

If you have an opportunity to go, you will not be disappointed. We'd love to go back in the summer to see things when they have some green in them.

Beautiful photo's. You talked about the wind. I was stationed in Keflavik as an air traffic controller for the navy. This was in the early 70's. We ran GCA, ground controlled approach, approaches for the navy, airforce and civilian aircraft when the weather got bad. We operated out of what looked like an old railroad car which was filled with radar equipment and miles of wiring and steel. It was incredibly heavy but the wind there actually blew it off the pad it was sitting on. Incredible winds. Thanks again for the memories and the photo of Gullfoss.
