Interesting story. That PIXMA Pro 10 is a nice printer, if you don't want it feel free to ship it to me in CA. I have a Canon PIXMA Pro 100, the 10 and 1 are progressively nicer and more expensive. I got my Pro 100 free from a friend. It does Color great but mediocre B&W.

If you want great B&W prints and don't print B&W larger than 8.5 X 11, the Canon TS 9000 series do an excellent job. They have 3 color cartridges, 1 black and 2 grey, and they don't go through ink like the Pixma Pro printers do.

Trying to time your purchase will only leave you with regrets. There is a new R that will be available in the 1st quarter something with at least a bigger sensor, dual card slots and probably better video spec's. That will cause the EOS R and RP to drop more in price. If you are happy with your purchase then that's all you can do. I made the decision to wait for the next gen EOS R and I will probably over pay for it unless I wait a year.

On October 31, I fully succumbed to a GAS attack and I purchased my new EOS R. It is beautiful, I Love it, and the price had been recently dropped from $2300 to $1800, so it seemed like a good time to buy. Bought the camera, the adapter and the (new) Canon warranty. Oh, and I bought all this at Normans Camera in Kalamazoo, MI. The guy told me I was also buying a new printer - I said I absolutely do not have room for a new printer, and he TOLD me I was buying the new printer - a PIXMA Pro 10 and he was going to sell it to me, and he was going to throw in 50 sheets of 13 X 9 Canon Luster paper, all for $350. And, he completed and handed to me the paper work for a $350 rebate, so the printer he foced me to buy was free - with ink and paper!

Part 2

In December, Canon dropped the price $300 on the EOS R and added the adapter back into the price! instead of $1800, it was now $1500! If I had only waited!

Well, Yesterday, we were in Kalamazoo (its 50 miles from us) and I told the wife I was going to stop into Normans to say "Hi"; and maybe ask a question or two....

20 minutes later, I left the store with $300 going back into my Credit Card!

I have maintained here before that the local photography store can compete with the big boys - I have proved it again. I don't believe the Printer deal would be available at Amazon, and I don't think that most stores would rebate the price difference (a) after 30 days, and (b) when they do not have to look into your eyes.

So, no I did not get screwed, I was taken very good care of by a local camera store that has battled the big boys for 62 years. If you are ever in Kalamazoo - or Grand Rapids - stop in to Normans and say hello the the good folks there. If you can't get there, Normans sells on line at the same prices as the big boys - always have, and they include service at no additional cost.

Merry Christmas, Friends.

Great story. If only there was a camera store local to me!

We have an excellent camera store here in Miami, Fl. It makes business under the name of Pitman Camera. They have been in business for as long as I can remember. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and the attention to the customer is top notch.
The store is not close to my home and the main reason I do not visit them more often. I was there a week ago because my Godox TT-350o was not firing with my Olympus cameras. Godox is not a brand that they sell and instead they gave me service as if I have bought from them.
Now camera and flash are working beautifully. I asked how much I owed them and with a big smile they told me just come back again.

Pitman is a very professional camera store. Surely I will come back again.

I learned when I bought my T90 that you do not look at new tech until you can afford to buy, and then you buy the best you can get for the money you have budgeted (+/- 50%). Never look back!

Mrs. Murphy laid down the law and never allowed the old man to buy a camera or computer because she knew that a newer model would come out the very next day, and he would want the newest, latest, greatest, bestest model. That is why all of Murphy's laws are hand written on lined yellow paper.

Try the Camera Company in Madison Wisconsin. I have had excellent dealings with them.

Sorry, I haven't read through all of the responses here. However, I can say that Norman Camera has come through for me many times in the past. I shoot large and medium film and digital. I have made a deal over the phone on a Canon PRO 100 printer that the person on the phone said they would set aside with my name on it. Another sales person sold the last one on the floor while I was on the phone. Short story, they sold me the PRO10 for the same price as the PRO 100 when I came to pick it up.

I've bought many lenses and two cameras from them. They let me touch and feel them, and their prices are the same as any on line stores. They are there to answer questions. And; as an aside: of the 19 employees at their Grand Rapids store, 11 still shoot film and print in the darkroom. Most of them are under 40, so not "Old Geezers" like me.

Art's Camera in Greendale is excellent. It's across the street from Southridge.

The Camera Store (two locations) in Madison is also excellent. One is a few blocks from West Towne Mall.

I live in Pensacola, FL and we have a local camera store, Calagaz, run by Rob Kepko and his family (some related, some not, but all family.) They are a branch of the Calagaz store out of Mobile, AL, approximately 45 miles away. They run the same sales as the big on line stores and the big chain stores, and their customer service cannot be beat. Rob buys a great deal of used gear and sells at great prices and he sells new. He backs up his products and doesn't make promises he can't keep. We are lucky to have Calagaz in both Pensacola and Mobile. Lo

Back in my film days there were multiple options for local brick and mortar photography stores that I would frequent. Today few and far between in northern IL. Part of my reason for dealing with Adorama and B & H, their return policy, pretty much, if you are dissatisfied for any reason, they will take back the product especially lenses.
