The D750 is a nice camera. A nice walk around lens to go with it is the Nikon 28-300. It is light weight and takes a nice picture for an all around lens

I have a 28-300 and like the range it covers making lens changes unnecessary. Sometimes that is more important than its relatively low image quality.

The new FX AFP 70-300 is much higher image quality at half the price.

"Keep the D7000 once you upgrade..." likely the most appropriate and germane advice so far...

cdorko did you consider testing each of the DX optics to see if they might be appropriate on your FX body?
btw, there is some rather inaccurate information posted in this thread...
My Tokina AF 11-16mm f/2.8 DX lens works perfectly fine on all my FX bodies at 16mm it doesn't vignette until till 14mm... Please don't rely on UHH hearsay but instead test you optics yourself... especially at the long end if they are zooms... I've captured some awesome images with the Tokina set at 16mm on a Nikon D3x (FX body). Yes the edges are a little soft however I use it for fashion editorials and don't give a rat's a$$ about edge acuity in this genre... only the center matters and here that Tokina DX is superb on an FX body at 16mm.

Also please be ABSOLUTELY certain to update your D750's firmware.

The Nikon D750 was possibly the most flawed camera Nikon ever released only the oil slinging D600 comes close... The D750 has gone through 5 iterations of firmware updates to "fix" major issues. But don't take my word for this... Google Nikon D750 Light Leaks. Nikon's Qualty Control was out to lunch on the D750

Hope this helps... and since you didn't share what genre you work in I have no clue as to what optics to recommend...

That is a worst case example for one lens perhaps at one zoom and at FX image area.

Most DX lenses are better and many show very little vignetting, at least over part of the zoom range, and at intermediate image areas such as the D750 1.2.

Right. This is a worst case example but any vignetting is too much vignetting. None of the DX lenses will adequately cover a full frame sensor. One would always need to have the FX camera on DX mode.

Quite wrong. Some of my DX lenses cover full FX area just fine. And all did well on some of the alternative image areas on my D800, or in certain zoom range.

Please do not make false assertions on what you have not tried.

Alas I can’t show examples because I sold my D800 for a Z6, and it does not permit using other than the DX image area with DX lenses.

BTW, I almost always add vignette to my images in post. I consider a slight vignette a plus.

No DX lens will have the coverage of an FX lens. If it did, it would be an FX lens. If you like vignetting then it's fine for you.

List the DX lenses you have that have full frame coverage. Which ones are they?

I really loved my D750. I also moved from the D7000 to the D750. The D750 is is a great DSLR camera. If you like DSLRs you will love the D750.

But the IQ is first-most a product of the optics not the camera body. With digital cameras, the body has more of an effect on IQ than a film camera body, but it is secondary to the lens. The lens is still the primary driver of IQ.

You can use your DX lenses but you will find that you will be happier with FX lenses on the D750.

Started with a Nikon Ftn with a lot of good lenses then I went Digital to a D100 with DX lens to a D300 but sold my DX lens and got a 24-85mm FX lens for it, worked out good. Now recently went up to a D700 FX and have the same lens for it and sold the D300. So now looking at f2.8 lens for it and on it goes. But made it to FX finally where in a way is back to where I started with 35mm film or FX full-frame. Love it..!

Alas I no longer have the D800 to check. But I recall my 10-24 did fine with FX above 15mm, and with two of the other larger image areas than DX over the full range.

I’d love to verify that with my Z6 but Nikon took away the ability to do so. It initially ticked me off as another Nikon downgrade (Like VR on D3400 and second slot on D7500). But I later read that the EVF made it more difficult. Maybe we will see a firmware upgrade to fix it.

I have a D750, what a wonderful camera. For a general walk-around lens I use the 28-120 f/4 it's a decent lens. I also have the 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 that I use a lot but not so much for walk around as they are heavy built like a tank pro lenses, but they are sharper and focus faster. Don't cripple that beautiful full-frame sensor with Dx glass, don't do it, man, you'd break it's big full-frame heart!

The D750 will recognize the Nikon DX-style lens and will automatically crop the resulting image file to 3936x2624 (10MP). If you haven't done so already, visit the Nikon site and download a PDF copy of the D750 manual. This topic is covered on page 118.

Consider selling all the various DX-style lenses. The camera detects automatically only the DX Nikon lenses. Look at the Nikon 24-120mm F/4.0G AF-S ED VR as your walkaround replacement.

Also be aware that the D750 may/will remain in DX mode after you put an FX lens on it. Greg.

I made this switch about a year ago, up from a D5300. 3 of my lenses are DX and probably won't see much if any use on the D750. The 70-300 is FX and I use it on the D750 some. The camera, bought new, came set for crop sensors. No vignetting, the D750 is essentially a crop sensor device then. Even so I thought it was great. The biggest improvement I see is high contrast situations, shadows do not need help from Photoshop. The 2 FX lenses I have make great pictures. You should notice a huge improvement in low light and high contrast situations.

You can find the settings to use DX lenses and continue using your "nifty fifty." At f 1.4 you won't need the flash, maybe not ever. I doubt you'll see any loss in picture quality unless you're making billboard size images.

The "nifty fifty." At f 1.4 is an FX lens, not a DX.

The D750 is a very well respected piece of equipment. I think you will be happy with it.

I am not sure what you mean by "Nikon took away the ability to do so"?

Just for kicks I mounted a DX lens on my Z7 and it worked fine. The Z6 and the Z7 have the same functionality.
