Your representatives just passed a tax cut with the promise it would spur economic growth and the results as has happened every single time your congressional representatives have cut them are the deficit explodes and we start running trillion dollar deficits. It isn't you parking all your 401k money offshore in Swiss bank accounts. We paid for the infrastructure that allows Amazon, Boeing and a plethora of other companies to make billions in profit and they don't pay a nickel in taxes. You pay for them remember?
Remember when Republicans deregulated the derivative markets? That one act cost the American people at last tally between $15 and $20 *trillion* dollars. You know what that's called? Socialism. It socialism for all the money exchangers and capitalism for diabetics who have to ration their insulin because the price has increased as much as 800% in the last ten years. You know why that is? Because when Bush passed the Medicare part D plan, an anonymous Republican in the senate slipped a provision into that huge bill which forbids Medicare from negotiating drug prices with any pharmaceutical companies. They just make up the prices and we have to pay it.
Your fellow Americans are dying because of that because they also put in a provision that we cannot import drugs from countries like Canada. They have the same exact drugs and pay a fraction of what we do because of congressional Republicans alone. Your premise is wrong. We don't have a tax shortfall, we have a spending problem. Tax revenue is up and based on historical norms it will rise even further because of the low unemployment.
The budget deficit isn't caused by a decrease in revenue. The revenue is less than was previously projected, but is still more than in previous years. If politicians would balance the budget the problem would go away. Keep in mind that multiple times during the Obama administration Republicans attempted to pass a balanced budget amendment and were met with resistance from Dems.
Now neither side seems to care about how much they spend. That is absolutely a problem, but it has nothing to do with Trumps tax bill, it's all about spending.
And I have a simple question. Bloomberg's current ad says that he will make the rich pay their fair share. What do you think that fair share is? The rich already pay a disproportionately large portion of taxes. 45 percent or more of the country pays no federal income tax at all while the top five percent of wage earners pay nearly 70 percent of the entire tax burden. How much should they pay?
If you make it too high the government will just take all of their wealth and spend it, then what. We become Venezuela. I have yet to be hired by a poor man. The rich have always paid my wages and provided good jobs and the chance to advance. Yet, Dems are never satisfied with how much the rich pay in taxes.
Unless you are working for government then there is a high degree of likelihood that wealthy individuals have at least indirectly helped create your job.
So again, how much should the rich pay. In my state they already pay about 11 percent to the state, then there are city taxes regulations that make it hard to expand a business, and high federal taxes. The average "rich" man already pays more than 50 percent of his income in one tax or another. When is enough enough?
