A friend and I are considering a photo trip to Nova Scotia or northern Maine this fall. We'd like to find a knowledgeable photography guide to help us get to the right spots at the right times. Any suggestions? I'd appreciate members' suggestions for worthy sites and times in this area, as well. Most likely travel time is late October/early November. Thanks.

Nova Scotia's on my bucket list...unfortunately not on my wife's. I'm keen to read about this thread and see photos when you return.

Just buy a guide to Nova Scotia. It will have suggestions for travel. Right off hand, I say don't miss Cape Breton and Peggy's Cove. Both are very photogenic. Talk to the locals, they will be helpful. I wish I was going back--have fun.

I spent 2 weeks in Nova Scotia on a photo journalism assignment. Peggy's Cove was one of my favorite places. Cape Breton was scenic as well. Camden/Rockport mid coast Maine, and East Port Maine are very nice.

Peggy's Cove was mentioned and that is an iconic venue. You might try further south towards Lunenburg. Quaint, charming and colorful.

In Maine, you won't want to miss Mount Desert Island (Acadia National Park). A sunrise on Cadillac Mountain is like few others. Lighthouses along the coast (down east) are nice to view as well.

In Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and Peggy's Cove are not to be missed. While on the Cape Breton end of the island, stop at Louisbourg. As well, a trip from Truro on the Glooscap Trail to see Five Islands and Cape d'Or is suggested. Along the coast, there are numerous small villages that ofer much tot he photographer's eye.

You have to drive the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton. The prettiest part of the drive is from Cheticamp to Pleasant Bay. If you can - make sure it's a clear day. The views are spectacular. My family is from Cheticamp and I love the area.

Great areas for photography. I'd hope for foggy days too. If you do Maine, the Maine Media Workshop is in Camden/Rockport and is worth a visit.

Just East of Nova Scotia, the Magdalen Islands seem really special. Though closer to Nova Scotia, they are quite French and part of the Province of Quebec. Pics are copied from the Magdalen Web site.

If you take the Cape Breton trip, travel CLOCKWISE so that you are on the inside route rather than on the cliff side. You'll see what I mean. :)
