No, it is not new. We have had Amazon Prime delivering for 2 years in ATL metro. 1 day delivery for lots of stuff if stocked locally - and yes they deliver 7 days a week. They are beating they heck out of UPS & Fedex. If you have not noticed they subcontract with a air cargo carrier for shipments. The planes carry the prime logo.
I saw my first Amazon prime delivery truck today in Anderson s.c. Is this a new service?
I've seen the trucks for while now. I live in So. California near a hub of Amazon warehouses and delivery infrastructure so we get new services early. They have been using private cars for years for delivering, then company cars, followed by vans. Yup now trucks. Watch-out UPS!
I wonder how UPS feels about that. I got a UPS package at 9:30 last night, and 10:00 PM last week. When they say I'll receive an item on Wednesday, 9:30 PM doesn't really count.

One morning while I was on Long Island I past an Amazon distribution center. The trucks rolled out one behind the other as if they were on a military mission. I've seen the future and it's coming fast.
