I've gone old school on this Gitzo. Anyone have a copy of the instructions for this beast?
Thanks
Gary

Why would one need instructions for a tripod, instructions for what?

Some of the older tripods required a bit of maintenance to keep them in good working condition. They also listed the parts and many even listed the size and threading of the screws, so that if you did need to do any maintenance, you could get the correct part.

Yes, and the new owner's of the Gitzo franchise (they have nothing available due to the age of the product). I did find an old catalog from Bogen that listed all the part numbers, but so far no detailed information.

Excellent choice. Everyone, this is the Cadillac of tripods. Not like the majority of junk most people use today. Back when Carl Heinz was the dealer in the US the Gitzo was also the Zippo lighter of Tripods. If you broke one they repaired or replaced the tripod with a new one! Gitzo is for ever and it does not fowl up. Of course it is made in France (Gitzo made all the machine gun mounts and surveying tripods during WW I so they learned the craft vary well).

Now Gitzo tripods have one HUGE failing, the shit plastic for the handles. Europeans don't seem to know how to make plastics. So, take your brand new Gitzo head, tighten the handles, then whack the shit plastic handles off with a hammer, then drill small holes in the remaining plastic of the handle and screw into each hole small screws but let these protrude. To this part of the handle form a new handle of Epoxy Plumbers Repair, it is in the plumbing area of the big box stores like Home Depot. Make a new handle that will last for ever.

I had a Tele Studex for 35 years and gave it to a younger photographer. It was the best and is still working super.

The one part you need to replace for wear is the friction collar of each part of the leg. Heads up, NEVER take the leg apart and the friction collar will last about 1/2 to 3/4 century! Gitzos that are cared for and only mildly abused will live longer that you!
