Looking to make my own screen on the cheap.
Thought about White vinyl. Concerned about being to shiny/reflective (if that even matters).
Have not determined the screen size, yet.
Any ideas?
Thanks! Pat

How about a plain white cotton sheet?

Good idea.
Have you used a sheet?
Maybe, someone has.
The price could be low enough.

Depending on the size you want, cut to size window shades from any of the big box home improvement stores should work well.
Plane sheets don’t have shiny spots. The higher the thread count the better. Used in the boyscout summer camp. I have also done rear screen projection onto a frosted shower curtain. Frosted shower curtain is almost TV brightness.
What kind of projector? Digital one or a slide projector?
Here is China, most people use high quality projectors rather than LCD televisions. Space is at a premium here, so having the projector ceiling mounted with wireless controls is the way to go. Plus, it makes it into a cool home cinema, because you can use as much wall space as you want. The screens are painted onto the walls, and there is a special paint available for this specific purpose. I do not know the name, but it seems you could go to a reputable paint store and see if they carry it. If not, a flat, bright white will do as well.

Just buy a projection screen. A 120-inch screen at Amazon right now is $21, you might not find a bedsheet that cheap. Also, it has grommets and already has a 16:9 aspect.

Seems a no brainer...That's amazing!

Solid. Smooth. Matte. White. No optical brighteners. No translucency. No gloss.

Thanks for all the ideas!
I'm looking at a cheap projector for video and images.
I'm not making money. I'm volunteering time.
I'm wanting to go the cheap route. Well, for right now.

Jay,
Before our computer club moved into a business' 'party room' that had a built-in screen/projector, we used a 72" white window shade, which I built into a decorated box that we mounted to the wall. Worked excellent for nearly 15 years. Best if you choose a shade without a 'glossy' surface.
Good Luck,
Papa Joe
Digital projectors require a different screen than film projectors. That being said, some digital projectors just use a painted wall as its surface and adjust colors, etc as needed.
Being old I remember the drive in movie theaters. The screens as I recall were painted on with a special reflective paint. I wonder if the few remaining drive ins still use this paint.
They make projector paint for turning any wall into a screen. Google the formula and take it to any paint supplier.
