I have tried many times to focus stack wild birds, this image is a 16 stack hand held. The quality is not the same as using a tripod. I have cleaned up the background with photoshop.

My camera takes 18 shots per second and adjusts focus so it's not that difficult, the only hard thing is keeping the camera still enough for the sequence to finish. Thanks for your comments Mike

I think I get maybe 3 shots per second.

I just had to find a bird that stood still for 3 seconds. 1 second for the camera (18 shots per second and focus) and 2 seconds for me to focus and press the shutter, the Robin was the perfect subject.
