I have one but I’m only getting transfer speeds of 165 MB/s from my SD cards through the newest USB connection. I’ll have to look into what type it is... I know when I transfer anything to itself (file to file) it says over 1 gig transfer speed.

The type of hard drive doesn't speed up the other connections on the computer.

No but USB 3 should have over 600 MB/s , but I just looked up my SD card specs and see it has max transfer of 170 MB/s so..... never mind lol.

Fear not, there are NVMe controllers that can be installed in a spare PCI-e slot that can be used.

Here is an example of a NVMe drive. It has a heat sink, or "spreader" as they call it. I wouldn't consider any that doesn't have one because of the heat issue. They throttle down drastically when they become too hot.

I have the 2tb version of this. So this has a heat sink somewhere on it? I don't see it somehow. Thanks for any reply.

I don't have either, but if you read down the page of the link I sent, you can see a metal strip on the thing that is said to be a heat spreader. Some other similar ones have no such metal strip.

Here is the description and picture.

"Achieve a new level of drive confidence. Samsung's advanced nickel-coated controller and heat spreader on the 970 EVO Plus enable superior heat dissipation. The Dynamic Thermal Guard automatically monitors and maintains optimal operating temperatures to minimize performance drops."

I have the 970 pro and it doesn't have anything special on it.
The motherboard I use has a very thick one that clamps down on the drive and is part of the decor.
