Hello,

A new projector is needed by a photo club and they cannot afford to purchase a new one.

They know a new one would be a minimum of at least five hundred dollars.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Thank you

I just bought the Epson EX9220 for my cactus & succulent club, which also could not afford to purchase a new one. I bought it because we also have a need to show real-time displays on the screen and the 9220 allows us to do that. It's $799.99, although one can get it on sale at Amazon, Best Buy, etc. If one has a PayPal account, one can buy it at Amazon using PayPal credit and pay it off over 6 months with no interest. So I bought it using my PayPal account and the club is paying me $133.33 every month for 6 months.

I am a member of 13 cactus & succulent clubs throughout Southern California and one in New Mexico. All of them use either Epson or ViewSonic projectors. All of them are exceptional.

Check them out at Amazon by doing a search there for Epson or ViewSonic projectors.

Fund raising such as pet and baby shoots. Have the members form small groups and get creative in using their talents to raise the funds. Any excess can be donated to a charity.

Try this Chinese knock off company. They’re decent quality. www.banggood.com. Search for home projector. It takes 3weeks for delivery, but prices are very cheap!

My club has a used one--I’ll check to see if it’s available and get back to you in a few days.

Did a lot of research before buying this one: Optoma HD142X 1080p 3000 Lumens 3D DLP Home Theater Projector

It was the least expensive high end projector I could find, and it does an amazing job. Perhaps the club could raise some $ from the members to get the net cost down a bit?

Looking online, the top rated one was $24,000, so I can understand your club's problem.

However, Amazon offers lower prices.

Our club just purchased a new projector. We asked each member to contribute $25.

You didn’t describe the venue or club size, but Amazon has a refurbished Epson projector that might meet your needs.

The camera clubs I belong to use Epson or InFocus projectors. If you are conidering a used projector, make sure you understand what a replacement bulb might cost. Some can ccost as much as $200-300 making it difficult to justify buying used vs new. Generally speaking Epson replacement bulbs are more reasonably priced.

To save $$, you do not need to get one with high lumens rating unless the room is very dark and the throw distance is large. Lots of factors impact what projector will be best for your club. Google this topic before buying one.

Sometimes large corporations will donate an old projector to a worthy club.

Shoot. My club just sold our old one because we got a new one. We practically gave it away.
