Hi Russ, how did you do the tile work? Knowing you, I bet it's a combination of many steps Can you give us a brief overview?

In PS Elements there is a "mosaic tiles" effect under Filter/textures. And a smudge tool you use like a brush. Also, under the Filter tab is "Distort," which offers several choices. I'm thinking there is something else that would come closer to your look, but can't recall it at the moment.

Thanks for posting!

Really intriguing picture. I think I know how you did it and I can't wait to see if I'm right.

Edit:
After closer inspection I have NO idea how you did it.

Hi All I will tell those who asked how I did this. First of all I use Corel an older one at that. First I picked the two images I felt I needed, in my minds eye, to make the finished one. They were a flamingo at our local zoo who was sleeping in a large flock of them. I also found a bland old shot of a yellow lily in a dark background. with these two I made a four layer stack. Layer 1 flamingo, layer 2,3,4 all the same lily.

#4 I made into a light grey solid panel.

Turned all off but #3 and used a warping brush to make it bigger and more fun, then turned on a tiling effect and tiled sized to my taste, it warping and all.

Turned #2 on, 1,3,4 off. I cut this lily out and did a bit of old painting effect on what remained.

Turned #1 on, 2,3 off, 4 on. Used erasure brush on #1 to isolate the sleeping bird while viewing the grey panel behind it to make sure I got all the bits and pieces I did not want on #1. (the grey layer really helps with this)

Then turn all on and move and resize 1&2 to become well placed in your image and to your taste.

I then adjust lightness, darkness, clean edges, and with a very small softening brush depixialate edges that stand out. I also so some shading on edges that move away from you to heighten depth feeling.

I realize this may seem intimidating to some, but it is heavily laced with patience, and as the music student said to the instructor, How do I get to Carnegie Hall? To whit the instructor said Practice, Practice, Practice............!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this helps. RBorud
