E.L.. Shapiro Loc: Ottawa, Ontario Canada

Special Announcement: (also posted in the Main Section)

Hi Folks,

For users of the Professional and Advanced Portraiture section. There have been some activities on this section that may necessitate significant revision of the rules and policies therein, perhas a change in the basic concept thereby making it more specific in a number of areas. Going forward, some of the following changes are under consideration; a renaming of the section, a differet critiquing format, and a very stringent policy against unpleasant exchanges, a workshop format to encourage more participation, more specific critiquing criteria- and no "attaboy or attagirl" comments without some constructive, notations, suggestion and pertinent comments.

No basic forum rules will be countermanded or violated. There will be some manager-allowed revisions.

For the time being, the section will remain open but new rules and policies will be posted shortly. If theses changes prove to be ineffective, the section may be taken f down while a replacement or overhauled version is formulated.

Interested parties can post their suggestions in the section- your participation will be greatly appreciated and your ideas will be part of the eventual outcome. The section is accessible in the "All Sections" category on the UHH home page or you can post here if you wish.

Let's see how it goes and then I will contact the administrator with my suggestions. The final decision will be up to the admin.

I like most of your suggested changes especially no arguments or unfriendly comments unless they are constructive. Perhaps the only thing I disagree with is the "no thataboys". Some works are so good and nearly flawless that I feel I must acknowledge them even though I have nothing educational to add. maybe after you make your changes I will learn some more techniques to add positive learning comments so as to keep them posting.

Toby! Not to worry! I don't expect a technical thesis. If you like an image just say why- the mood, the lighting, the way it is composed, it reminds you of your favorite movie star, it's romantic...whatever. I don't require fancy language. When you give your impressions THEN we can discuss the techniques that led to the result. That's how you will learn more about technical issues. Better than books and tutorials. Participation!

That is great. As I said I like to see a crackdown on snide remarks, unjustified or cruel criticisms and worthless comments. Thanks Toby
