playing around with my 70-200mm and took a quick shot of one of the girls on the cross country team. What do you think? A nice portrait?

I am no expert but I think the framing is great. And I love the expression; candid and not expecting the photo. I think it captures her 'true self'. Great job :)
PS, love the slight smile :)
Pretty cool when that happens.
What is even better, she loves the pic!

Well done you! That's my kind of portrait. love everything about it.
I think that the portrait is great. It works very nicely for me.
Question: The skin seems a bit flat. I think that the skin of a black person (hope I am using he proper term) can be extremely difficult to capture when one does not do it often enough. Was the tonality adjusted after capture?
nope the picture was cropped and not enhanced by iphoto. I don't understand what you mean by flat?

To me it has good composition but the focus seems to be on the ear and not on the eye closest to you. The face is soft (not in focus or sharp). Notice how the ear and the area of the hair around the ear is in sharp focus but the nose, chin and eye lid are not. For me if the face is in focus the rest of the picture can be soft and the shot is more appealing.

I think it is great! I love how natural and "unposed" it looks.

Just found this. I think it's a great shot. A look of quiet contemplation captured forever.
