I used my photo editor to convert my daughter's cell phone photo so that the Walgreen's card ap would accept (her previous attempts returned a message that the resolution was too low).
I also provided my wife with two photos shot in RAW with my Sony A900, processed with darktable, then exported to 100% quality jpg's for her use in ordering holiday cards.
In both cases, photos that looked good viewed on a number of computer/tablet screens turned out with much less vibrance on the products returned from the vendors. Can anyone shed advice on this process. Do I need to provide photos that are processed with some sort of 'over-compensation' to yield pleasing results, or is this just the nature of the territory when ordering cards including photos from these types of vendors?
For what it's worth, I have received several similar greeting cards, and those photos look similar to the results we have experienced.
Next year, I will be looking for alternative sources unless I can figure out how to get what we see on the screen after editing a photo to appear on the final product that we order from the vendor(s).
Advice welcome.

You might check out Costco, I see that they have greeting/wedding/seasonal cards in a 5x7 format. I use Costco for my photos and haven't had a complaint yet.

Whenever I am forced to use an outside printer like you encountered , I require proofs before the larger prints are produced to cut down on possible waste. And I would look for a better printer if I wasn't given that respect as requested for all the obvious reasons.
Good Luck
I have found that I needed to uncheck the enhance option on places like this because it messes up what you have already done. All of them seem to have this as the default, to enhance, and it really screws up my pictures. You would think that this would be an option not the default. It is usually at the very bottom of one of the pages and needs to be UNCHECKED.
I have never liked Walgreen's version of prints. They were always off-colour and washed out compared to prints made at other places. I have only used Shutterfly to print books. They turned out OK. For cards, I'd suggest Costco. Their prints always look fine to me, but I've never printed cards there.
Walgreen,s did an excellent job on 3 calendars I just had done two weeks ago.
I use Bayphoto with great results.
My daughter took professionally-produced photos (jpegs) of my granddaughter and used Shutterfly to create a front & back card with a collage of the photos. The color was excellent, the pictures sharp and Shutterfly has Christmas templates with decorations and messages to create a pleasing Christmas card. This is the third year she's done this and each year's card was excellent.

I agree that Walgreen prints are not acceptable

Usually they aren't too bad, but lately they've just gone to crap. The last few times I've ordered things from them there is always something wrong with my order that I have to go back and have fixed. One time they even had other peoples pictures in with mine and over half of my pics from my order were missing. The only reason I'm still printing from there is because when I want to print cheap copies of pics from our trips to send to people. They may not be the best, but they'll do for passing out pics. When I want the really high quality stuff from our trips to hang on my wall I go elsewhere.

It has been a while since I used Walgreens—the colors were not what I expected. I am not excessively demanding, but Costco suits my needs very well.
The print quality at Walgreens is not the same at all store locations. I recommend having a (small) test print done before submitting a larger project. If the results are unsatisfactory, try a different Walgreens.
If your system isn’t calibrated for printing it’s not uncommon for your printed results to be kind of flat. The prints will never have the vibrance or saturation you see on screen.
I use Shutterfly and with good jpegs the card templates work well.
I also do an annual family book from them and am happy with the results.
