Beetle Dorsal View

This is a focus stacked dorsal view of the beetle that Bill (newtoyou) provided for these sessions. A few days ago I posted the facial view of this specimen.

This session was taken with a Laowa 60mm 2X Super Macro set at 2X @f/8, 1/4-sec., with diffused constant multi-directional lighting. This is a 294 image stack processed with Zerene Stacker.

As always, thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Thanks Mark. For what it's worth I received a message from ZYOptics that the Mitakon Creator 85mm f/2.8 1-5X Super Macro had a design flaw in the way that the apparent aperture was calculated in the manufacturing of some segments of the glass which caused the resulting images to be soft and out of focus.

They stopped selling the lens and are making changes in the production. They gave me the option to cancel my order or to ship a newly designed lens after the Chinese New Year to arrive late January or early February. They gave me a link to view images of the output of the corrected lens which of course looked good at the higher magnifications. I opted to stay with my order so time will tell.

Looks to be a Hickory Twig Borer. Anthaxia viridifrons. The species name means green head. Clearly seen in Gary's picture.

Thanks Bill, it's a pure joy to work with your specimens and I always learn something about their wonders seeing them in magnified detail and from the educational narrative responses.

Great detail. Black background makes the subject pop.
