To my eye a major factor contributing to the impact of these images is the role of the existing complementary colors. In particular it is the the reds of the red and browns of the plumage in counterpoint to the greens of the background leaves and mosses and the blue—grays of the dead leaves on the ground. and, of course, the natural hues within the plumage of the males pheasant offer the same, but more localized, complementary effect.
Admittedly, coming across a scene offering such an excellent complementary color effect is a matter of chance, but when it presents itself ,as in this series, make the most of it ... as Angler did!
