From Industrial to Classical

Titles a bit pretentious I know! This model was shot in a boiler house whilst on an environmental portrait shoot but some may remember I rather like the pre-Raphaelite look, and this ladies red hair sort of leans that way. So I’ve put her in a more classical background taken in the Clough Williams-Ellis fantasy village of Portmerion in Wales, UK. It’s not actually finished but was awaiting some final improvements when my computer went sick. This is a screen shot I happened to have on my iPad. Nothing else to do you see, so I’m bothering you with it! If you feel like leaving some critique or thoughts on it, they will be appreciated.

I like the lighting, color and contrast but ...., those 2 black holes in the wall continually catch my eye and maybe a little too much empty space on the right. Just one man's opinion!

It looks like you have a lot of potential with the model and the setting, but I hope you do something about that face in the background staring out at us.

One man’s opinion is just fine! Those holes certainly catch the eye, I agree. Not sure about the space, I’ll have a look on my big screen once it’s working again. Many thanks for your comments.

Too much imagination RG!

Quite fine as is, the nits noticed are only a dominant aspect if narrowly focused on. I really dislike this on a personal level for its "gruesomeness" for want of a better word, but would definitely jury it into an exhibition on its well-honed merits around a central idea.

Well it could be that I’ve already dealt with those ‘holes’ in the background Bob - I need to see my layered file to be sure. I’ve posted shots with this model previously, she always adopts a slightly pained look, which some object to but I can live with. Is that what gives it ‘gruesomeness’? Many thanks for your critique, as always, it’s appreciated.

Yes, it's primarily her face, as we tend to tune in on that strongly. The somewhat barren and subdued icolors of the setting add to my initial reaction.

Yep, I get that - but a lot of ladies in classical art do look rather pained, don’t you think?

It’s work in progress Don but I’m glad you find it so, thank you for commenting it’s inspiration to get it finished - if only the computer was working!

I like the image. period !
Now the title does not make any sense to me but what the hell, it's the photo that counts, and I tend not to notice all the little bitty stuff people point out like the two black holes or eyes in the back ground. I see all the time here on the HOGG and if others do not point it out I usually do not even notice or do I even care.
I look at the image as whole and main subject and appreciate the offering.
Now allow me to be an unpaid untrained photo critic.
I like her skin color and honest skin details in contrast to her hair color. This is a nice photo as it is and I appreciate it. Now there ya go.
Sir Broose tha loose in Texas.

I’m very pleased you enjoyed it - and thanks for your thoughts on it. The title is merely a reference to her change of venue.
