SOOC except for crop and raw DPP conversion/export.
GREAT action shots. Your exposure is spot on. Your shutter speed is perfect for the constant movement, so much is sharp. I recently saw some basketball photos someone was proud of but actually they couldn't hold a candle to yours. Not sure if these pictures are for the team but if they are they will love them. Congratulations👏

Thank you all for the kind words. My son was the wrestling coach (in addition to teaching graphics and photography), so I shoot for the team members and their parents, the yearbook and occasionally the paper. Of course, I do it gratis. This was the first match I’ve shot with the 5D4, but it’s just like my 5D3, so only a short learning curve. The Gyms are DARK, so I shoot at 1/250, f 2.8 and auto ISO, which usually ends up between ISO 4000-10,000, so the noise keeps the shots from being as tack sharp as I’d like. One thing I like about the 5D4 (in addition to anti-flicker) is that I can shoot with my 135 f2L instead of the 70-200 f2.8L and crop when I need to, and I tell you, the difference in weight makes a big difference when you’re holding the camera at eye level for the majority of 3 hours! (No way to use a monopod for wrestling) I processed these raws with DPP, so generally all I have to do is crop, maybe sharpen a bit and export, since once the in-camera parameters are fine-tuned, the raws look like the JPEGs - saves a lot of time.
Great shots! Thanks for sharing. Paul

I especially like how you've gotten facial expressions and "wrestling moves" before they disappear. My initial reaction was, "These are great, but what if they were taken from ground level to eliminate the backgrounds?" Any way that you could get all the way down?

Thank you. I may try “ground level”, but I will do it with the tilt screen. We had a photographer lying prone next to the mat at this last match. That seemed to work for him right until the moment that two 220 lb wrestlers went out of the ring and stepped on him. Thankfully, neither he nor his Nikon was hurt, but at 74, I can’t move that fast 🙀.
Cheers

I hear that. I do the same thing with football. Close enough to the action but not that close.
