a few shots taken recently in Seattle and in Washington's three National Parks
2 and 4 and 5 are my favorited, beautiful shots.

OK.
Frame three should have been shot/cropped? in "portrait" not landscape however.
A very wonderful and beautiful set. Mahalo for sharing.

Should it? Why, to show the tops of the 150' tall trees?

Wow that's mighty tall trees.
I don't know if your lens has a short enough focal length to show
the tops of the trees, however in portrait the verticals would feature more
and bring pattern and perspective of height as well as capturing
the waterway. It'd just make a better picture imho.
Having said that, what makes you happy is more important
than what I think.
Nice. I really like the 3rd one.
I really enjoy tree shots, thanks.

I hear you Abo. My interests lie more in showing the human-scale places that trees create for us - whether in parks and gardens, or the untamed forest. Hence, I generally shoot horizontally. (Here's a shot I like, but left out.) And, yes the conifers in this part of the country are definitely tall; I estimate the large cedar in the foreground of pic 3 is well over 100'. Edit: As I look more closely, I think it's a western hemlock rather than a cedar.

I really like the simplicity of the group of trees in #5. Nicely done.

Thanks, aellman. I'm a bit surprised at the strongly positive reactions that pic gets. (An artist friend told me the same thing last year.)
I'd have to say, the majority of credit for the pic should go to the landscape designers for Seattle's parks. This little grove is in Golden Gardens, Seattle's most popular park. I'll have to go back in the spring and find out what type of trees they are.
