Lucky you Recon and Wife, great shot. My wish is just to see an owl in the wild.

OORAH! In the almost 2 years that Sally and I have been attempting to be photographers we have really wanted to photograph an owl. A few days ago we were packing our gear up and a Great Horned Owl flew upon a post that was not TOO far away.

This is amazing, my wife and I also fairly new to photography were constantly seeing other owl photos with no luck for us. One eve this summer around dusk I was sitting in the back yard reading when a Great Horned landed 20 feet away. If I knew how I would include a pic. Ah, maybe I can. Did it work? Guess not

I'm jealous! We hear owl in our area but I've never had a chance to photograph one. I keep looking. Beautiful shot!

Hey, Vic. I just saw this. I'm amazed to see that no-one has corrected your ID. It's a Long Eared Owl, not a Great Horned and a beautiful shot. Congrats.

I'm AMAZED that you corrected an identification with an owl that doesn't exist in Florida.

There are 5 owls in Florida. 3 of them do not have ears. The 2 that do are: an Eastern Screech Owl and a Great Horned Owl. The Eastern Screech Owl at it's adult maximum length is 16 inches and does not slightly resemble this owl. It is a GREAT HORNED OWL.
