Fun lil buggy, the Turbo sported 120 hp ( I think) and was a suprisin runner, especially at the level of the competition, thew VW Bug whose legendary 36 hp "power plant" could hardly negotiate a decent hill, much less a mountain,
Yenko performance, later known for their legendary 427 cubic inch Camaro and Chevelle started with the turbo corvair racers

I had an uncle that owned one of these. One day my Dad borrowed it and the engine fell out. They only had 2 bolts that held the enging in place. :XD:

If the engine fell out,it was because someone had worked on it and did not properly finish the job.The Corvair had some problems, but not the ones Nader squawked about.I was a Chevrolet Dealer and a friend of Don Yenko at the time.

I tried out one with a brand new gold color paint job. It was $200.00 & I really wanted that car. My dad rode in the back as I was trying it out. I was all set to buy when he talked me out of it. Said the gas fumes in back of car nearly made him sick. May have had their problems but they sure did have personality. Now they just all look the same (like boxes with wheels)

OMG!!! that was my first car but of course, it had many owners before I got it to drive to college LOL
I remember those days of yore.
I owned 6 or 7 of these growing up, the Spider was the one I like best. Yes the engines where held in with twp bolts of each side (4 total); as I recall. Great car. I live in Michigan and back then we could use studded snow tires, which meant you never got stuck in the snow due to the flat floor pan! Great car, thanks for the memory stimulation!
That Turbocharged one was a real machine.Ran one in a hill climb and easily won against the Triumphs and Austin Healy's in my class.Would have placed second if matched with the Porcshes. This was not a hill climb with big name drivers. In another hill climb with a 4 carb Corvair, beat a Lotus.
