I am thinking about trading in my Nikon D7100, with a broken LCD screen, and getting a new camera. What do you think is the best to sell the old camera? and How much do you think the D7100 with broken LCD is worth?
I also have two Nikon Lenses in very good conditions:
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 G
and
Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm1:4.5-5.6 GED VR.

Appreciate any input.

Would you be getting an FX or DX model? That 50mm is an FX lens whereas the other is a DX. If you get a DX model, keep both, if you get an FX version, I'd keep the 50mm. Just my 2 cents. As for the camera with the broken LCD screen, I have no suggestions...It's not likely that you would get much for it. It may be better to sell it on eBay as a "parts" camera...

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately my wife wants me to sell off my equipment before getting a new camera. I told her I would not get much the D7100, but you can not argue with a stubborn woman.

Thanks!

Selling everything will certainly give you the freedom to go with any other brand or camera type, rather than getting stuck wih Nikon. Makes some sense (even though I am a Nikon shooter).

I just sold a non-working D7500 in an Ebay auction for several hundred dollars, so there is a market. I would suggest listing your items separately. The lenses are fairly common and you won’t get much, but you will be able to satisfy your goal of selling them.

I have not had any experience with the buy/sell feature on this foum, so maybe some other members can chime in.

Check ebay to see what they are selling for. And, call Nikon and find out what a new LCD screen will cost to put in, subtract that from the prices you find on ebay and determine if it is worth it.

When you say you have a broken LCD, do you mean you have a cracked LCD, or that the LCD is not working? The D7100 is a very good DX DSLR, with two SD memory card slots. A cracked LCD can be replaced.

I used to buy and sell a lot on ebay years ago. I had good experiences and bad. But over the last 5 years the bad experiences started to outnumber the good AND ebay fees have gotten expensive.

I have found it easier, quicker and stress free to just deal with the camera dealers like B&H, KEH etc. Yes, they will offer you a lower price than you MAY get on ebay but there is no risk and no hassle. After they quote your item they will send you a label to ship it to them at their expense. This will also cover its loss if lost in shipping. With ebay you will have to pay the ebay fees, shipping and insurance. And if it is lost then you will need to follow up with the carrier with all the insurance details. I lost several items through ebay and was unable to collect any compensation through ebay or the carrier. Yes, you may get a few dollars more on ebay, craigslist etc. but you will work for those few dollars.

I have traded and purchased a good deal of gear over the last few years with B&H and KEH and it was very easy and satisfying. All done online and everything handled for you. Basically, I decided one weekend to trade my Nikon gear for the equivalent Sony kit. By the next weekend, all my Nikon gear was gone and I was out shooting with my new Sony gear. No headaches, no regrets.

Since Nikon is getting rid of their repair center, you might be able to get a higher price.

The LCD is not crack, it stop working. I already checked into how much it will cost to replace, and from Nikon in Atlanta $300 plus. I am not sure if it is worth fixing. There was company in LA that would do it from around $200, and that doesn't include if they found something else.

Thanks for the input.

Sounds like car mechanics. "If I find something else, it will cost more." They usually find more.

Before you sell your lenses ( I agree, if you keep just one, keep the 50mm) know that cameras other than Nikon have adapters to accept a Nikon lens. For example I have a Fuji Mirrorless and have an adapter so I can use the 50mm lens I used on a Nikon D7000.

I like ebay. Unless I'm a real stickler on price, I accept whatever people are willing to pay. I always check recent sales so I know what to expect. The item is gone in a week, and I have money.

Hi: Try KEH you put the information on their website and they will give you a price quote. I did for my D7000 and lens their price was quite reasonable.
