[quote=MrMophoto]I don't know but I've been told it's hard to run with the weight of gold, on the other hand I've heard it said it's just as hard with the weight of lead. - New speedway boogie, Greatful Dead

As the Marine drill instructors told us while marching in Navy AOCS:
I don't know but I've been told Navy wings are made of gold. I don't know but it's been said Air Force Wings are made of lead.

Just sayin....

I've always thought that there are nuggets of profound philosophy to be found in classic rock songs. Here's a few samples. I invite you to contribute more.

"You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need." - The Rolling Stones

"No matter how close to yours another's steps have grown, in the end there is one dance you'll do alone." Jackson Browne

"Get it while you can." Janice Joplin

"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." Crosby, Stills, and Nash

"No one gets out of here alive." Jim Morrison (a book title, not a lyric).

"Lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand. Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy." Jackson Browne

"It's not dark yet, but it's getting there." Bob Dylan

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." The Beatles

"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now." Bob Dylan

"All lies and jests, still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." Paul Simon

"When ya ain't got nothin', you got nothin' to lose." Bob Dylan

"All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be." Pink Floyd

I know there are couple in this list some of you will feel are C&W but the three I included are cross-over artists and their songs frequently hit the popular rock charts.

Love won't take no reservations
Love is no square deal
Hey love don't give no justification
It strikes like cold steel
Love kills, drills you through your heart
Love kills, scars you from the start
It's just a living pastime
Burning your lifeline
Freddie Mercury

Math suks math suks
Jimmy Buffett

All you need is love
Beatles

The wrong thing is the right thing until you loose control
Jimmy Buffett

We're only dust in the Wind
Kansas

We've got each other and that's a lot for love
Bon Jovi

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
Kenny Rodgers

Now and then
I must admit I wonder if I had the chance
To vanquish foes with nothing more than just a glance
How perfect every single day would be
UB40

Remember when the music
Brought us all together to stand inside the rain
And as we'd join our hands, we'd meet in the refrain,
For we had dreams to live, we had hopes to give.
Harry Chapin

I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
Life is demanding without understanding
I saw the sign and it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
No one's gonna drag you up to get into the light where you belong
But where do you belong?
Ace of Base

When you see the Southern Cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small
But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a coming day
CSN

What awaits is whatever you see
When you get there or even before;
It's no matter. No distance. It's the ride.
CSN

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part
Tom Petty

Will you still need me, will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four
Beatles

The wind of change
Blows straight into the face of time
Like a stormwind that will ring the freedom bell
Scorpions

If we couldn't laugh, we'd all go insane
Jimmy Buffett

You can check out any time you want but you can never leave.
Eagles

Do unto others as you'd have done to you
Rod Stewart

If the phone doesn't ring, it's me
Jimmy Buffett

Every hour of every day, I'm learning more
The more I learn, the less I know about before
The less I know, the more I want to look around
UB40

It's like you're always stuck in second gear
When it hasn't been your day, your week, your month
Or even your year
Rembrandts

Sometimes you're the windshield
Sometimes you're the bug
Sometimes it all comes together baby
Sometimes you're just a fool in love
Sometimes you're the Louisville Slugger
Sometimes you're the ball
Sometimes it all comes together
Sometimes you're gonna lose it all
Mary Chapin Carpenter

Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have to miss the dance
Garth Brooks

The thread was about “Classic Rock Songs”.

Martha Wainwright Wrote a great song about you....however, if I posted the title or lyrics I would be suspended.

As for your smarmy bias.....well, you don’t seem to have a problem with the other non-classic rock verses so wallow, baby, wallow! Maybe you should take Tim’s advice!

The song was written about her father, not me.
Not nice.

Aw, come on. Take a chance, don't be a sissy, go for it and post the lyrics. Live on the edge. Life is a thrill ride so buy a ticket and enjoy. So, if you get the boot from the site, so what, who cares? Its not the end of the world.

Ronnie James Dio. The following is from Dio's "The Last in Line."

We're a ship without a storm
We're the cold inside the warm
We're the laugh without tear
We're the smile without the mirror

This one hits home a little for me:

They arrested me and
and threw me in jail
I called my pappy
to throw my bail
and he said son
you're gonna drive me to drinking
if you don't stoop driving that hot rod Lincoln.

You can't miss with anything by Cohen. Among others, check out 'Everybody Knows' or one of my favorites, 'Closing Time'.

Ah we're drinking and we're dancing
and the band is really happening
and the Johnny Walker wisdom running high
And my very sweet companion
she's the Angel of Compassion
she's rubbing half the world against her thigh
And every drinker every dancer
lifts a happy face to thank her
the fiddler fiddles something so sublime
all the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
and it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops:
it's CLOSING TIME
