Return of THE OSPREY

Seems this particular Osprey has a fondness for this particular tree. He's here almost every day at sunset -
(which makes metering really difficult because the sun is almost directly behind it.

The primary reason for the post (Ospreys are almost as common as sparrows here in Florida) is to, once again, share my amazement and pleasure at how well the NIKON P1000 serves as my "Always Have With Me" camera. The bird is about 100 yards away. This is hand-held, 1/250" f/8 @ 2500mm. I DID lean against a tree trunk to help steady things. Then, just had to crop and attenuate the bright backgound a bit in post.

The only drawback to this, otherwise amazing, camera is that it's just not all that useful for action shots.
It simply takes too long to focus and shoot. Even if you use manual and pre-focus, the shutter is just not instantaneous. If the subject is planned and you KNOW it will be moving around...grab the D850.
But, can you imagine carrying around a (potentially) 3000mm lens?
