Does anyone know of a good close up lens? I have a Nikon d3100.`````````````

As in one that screws onto the front of the lens like a filter or an actual macro/micro lens or simply a regular lens that will do a very close focus?

I've heard those are very good. I know the Nikon 5T and 6T are good but pricey.
A dedicated macro/micro is usually the best choice.

Yes, mainly because they do not make them anymore ....

This is a good suggestion, but incomplete. Generally, the 500D is for focal lengths greater than 70mm, and the 250D is for shorter lenses.
https://ehabphotography.com/best-close-up-lens-for-canon/I think the other alternative, using extension tubes, a less expensive solution.

Nikon makes three lenses that will mount on the D3100 body. They are 40mm, 60mm, and 85mm.

Are you talking about a filter, or a real macro lens?

Have it, love it!
The Canon 500D is not a single element diopter, but a high-quality two-element lens.
It is REALLY Dramatic when used on a longer lens.

If you are trying to do macro, I think Nikon makes an exceptional 105 mm macro lens. But it carries a hefty price tag.
If you want to do macro on a budget, look into a reason 50 mm lens along with an extender set. The 50 mm lens on your cropped sensor along with the extender set will give you some great macro. These extender sets are usually around $100 from third party vendors at B&H or Adorama. A used Nikon 50 mm lens should also be available at a reasonable cost. Check at KEH for used lens.
Hope this helps.
All the Nikon Macro lenses are rather good. The 60mm and 85mm are good for a DX camera. Extension tubes can also be helpful but less convenient than a macro lens. If you mean close up lenses that attach to the front of your normal lens, forget it. They are terrible. Raynox lenses, however, are rather good but not particularly cheap.

Yes....I have one and it works very well and didn't cost a lot of money and is a great item that you carry in you r shirt pocket if you suddenly need it......worth a look.

A great way to achieve fab closeups is, once you have a macro lens, buy a cheap reversing ring and step rings and any good 50mm standard lens even old ones in good shape optically. Reverse that 50 onto your macro lens with the 50mm aperture wide open. This will also work with any lens with close focusing capabilities. The results will speak for themselves. A focusing rail would be another great addition for fine incremental focus. You don't need an expensive one just a rugged one. Some sell for $30 or less. and the reversing/step rings are dirt cheap. Good luck.
