I'm very happy with this Lenovo Legion Y545. It is missing an SD card slot, so needs a USB reader. The screen is 1920x1080 HD but will drive a 4K external monitor.

The CPU is faster than most, the SSD is larger than most, the HDD is a full TB, RAM is big enough and it has Nvidia graphics.

At a thousand dollars, it may hurt a little. But, I can't find better for near the price. Apple products with near specs, can be three times that much.

I have a Dell XPS15 with a touch screen 3840 x 2160 4k display, 32 Gb RAM, 2 Tb SSD drive, SD slot, HDMI, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt USB-C ports. A real workhorse. Right now, the Dell XPS 15 7590 similarily configured is $2400.

One great thing about Dell is, once your warranty is expired, or you want to upgrade components, you can download a complete service manual which lets you know how to muck about under the hood.

That's a lot of computer power! I need more toy money!

Thanks for posting. I, too, am looking for a new laptop and that sounds pretty good. Any thoughts on the screen and color quality, etc? Also, I wasn't sure reading the specs if I can plug in a second screen, have you tried?

I have had dozens of Dells over the years (some company provided, some purchased by me) and I can honestly say I have never had a failure of any kind. I have a couple of old XP machines that must be 12-15 years old, and they still work fine. Four years ago, I picked up a Lenovo Thinkpad (with SSD), and it, like all the other Thinkpads, has also been very satisfactory. I recently turned it on after a year, updated Windows 10 to build 1903, then logged on to the Lenovo website, and using their excellent tool, it updated all the drivers and BIOS automatically in about 5 minutes - I was impressed with their online support - seamless.

The Lenovo Legion Y545 has good color quality. But, my eyes are 73 years old and not recently calibrated. I don't use screen calibration tools either. I have not hooked up a second screen, but the manual and specifications say I can and it it will support 4K if I choose that. It has a Mini DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 holes in the back.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. It comes with 16G of memory, fast cpu and good graphics card. Cost $800 when I bought it and has been very reliable. I also hang an acer 27" ips 1440p monitor off of it for post processing.

Just bought a new 17" MSI gaming computer, I bought it from CUK (Computer Upgrade King). It has 64K RAM, 2TB SSD, and a 2TB HDD. Will be transferring files from my three year old 15"Acer with 4K RAM, 500 GB HDD today.

It may not be the greatest 'puter for photo processing, but it should be a significant improvement over the Acer.

Just upgraded to a MacBook Pro 13". I optioned it out to 16gb of memory and 1tb SSD. It's going cost more than the machines referenced above but I think it's worth it for photo editing
