I don't normally post all pics of one animal for wildlife photos, but this guy was really showing his stuff. He was reasonably close and not skittish at all. As I was walking away, he decided to branch hop paralleling my walk. Then he flew over me and landed on a nearby branch just so I could feed his ego a bit more and take more pics. Beautiful bird. Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve, Huntington Beach, CA. D7200 w/80-400 hand held.

I just found the latest uploads section of this site - #6 really caught my eye. The timing of the pic was outstanding, but I am sure it was one of those rare "lucky" shots! I wouldn't mind printing and framing that one, even if it was just to be a talking point about the branch going through the beak!

Don, you for sure got up on the correct side of the bed yesterday. A fantastic set in very way and this hawk deserved the amount of photos you took. HIGH FIVE for this set.

Although I am not an expert, this looks like an immature bird, perhaps 1st year. Youngsters do not have the tendency to be as wary as the adults and they will hang around more often. Guess they just paying more attention to practicing their skills. I think you found one. Fun stuff and thanks for sharing.
